So back from my hols and I have gained 8lbs..really upset because it took a lot of hard work to lose 10lbs over 8 weeks before I went. How do people cope? Ive adjusted my goals and going back to tracking and exercising but how long till I see results? I have no moto to exercise at all and even eating healthily is a mood killer now.

good effort! the most i have gained on holiday is 5lbs!

i 'cope' by just getting back to a deficit and regular exercise... i eat whatever i like in whatever portions i like on holiday because its a holiday... and then its back to business as usual when i am back home.

i dont understand what 'eating healthily is a mood killer' means?

A good 5 lb of that is probably just glycogen stores, it should drop right back off :)

Agree with Tavistock - that is an impressive holiday gain, I usually just manage a lb or two =D

Some if the gain will be water weight as you jumped from eating at a deficit straight into eating larger amounts when you were on holiday. Therefore it's possible you'll lose a few lbs within a couple of weeks.

Set a sensible calorie deficit and incorporate small changes that you can continue long term. Most people find that nourishing food improves low mood.

I've put on a few pounds after week's holiday but it's coming off pretty steadily. I'm just keeping some perspective, focusing on eating well & getting back to exercise routine, no biggie!

Why the upset? Hopefully you had a good holiday, enjoy the memories & move on!

I cope by understanding that fast weight gain isn't fat gain - do you really think you ate enough on holiday to gain 8lbs of fat?
Just do some simple mathematics based on 3,500 excess being required for gaining a pound of fat and you will understand the quantity of food that would be required.

My last week away resulted in a 9lb weight gain, getting back into my routine with a small deficit got rid of the temporary bloat in a very short time and the numbers suggested that of the 9lb gain only 1lb was fat.

You are giving far too much emotional power to the number on your scales!

AGREED! While I don't know what you ate like while on holiday, it's highly unlikely that you TRULY gained 8 pounds. That's 28,000 calories OVER maintenance level. (I did the math for you!) I would guess the majority of that is water weight. As for the motivation being gone… I would suggest powering through for a few days. It won't take long for that 8 pounds to fall right off… and then you're motivation will be back. Binges, holidays, etc… are typically only bad when you let them derail you completely.

I have just returned from an all inc holiday and gained 8 1b. Back into a serious effort. One week juicing and lost 41b now eating healthy and on stationary bike. I have now lost another. 2 1b

I came back from holiday (having ate cheese cakes, muffins, burgers, etc  ) and I was 3lbs heavier. I "lost" that 3lbs the week after from just going back to normal eating.

Honestly it's probably water weight which will come right off. I too was kinda like "huh that sucks" when I saw I had gained but it will come off :flowerforyou:
