I am sure i am not the only one who has family who is unconciously sabatoging weight loss efforts.

I do great when there is not any junk food in our house. However it seems that after a few days of doing well my mother in law sends home sweets and goodies with us all the time. My husband and i always tell her not to do it but she gets offended when we tell her no... and at the same time we hate to waste food.

and since its in the house thats when i start to give into temptation and begin to beat up on myself.... HELLLP

  • I have to be really honest. I throw it away. Seriously, OUTSIDE in the large garbage can; the disgusting stinky one - so I won't dig it out. Desperate times call for....

Throw it out in her outside garbage and maybe she will get the hint...and actually take you serious about no junkfood :)

If there's a homeless shelter, women's shelter, a senior center or anything similar between your mom's place and your place, try dropping the treats off there on the way home. Just find a secretary or someone at their front desk and explain the situation to them and they'll be happy to have them.

Dont throw it away. Give it to your friends, employees, classmates, or neighbor, or even a homeless person.

Well thats the story of my life! My family mostly Mother and Grandmothers have "loved" me with food since I was born...got me to 300 pounds and hating myself so bad I would beat my stomach. Now my parents send home junk with my 11 year old son and I still have a hard time with it! And I feel bad because they are trying to show "love" and I know it hurts thier feelings when I ask them not to send stuff! Worst part is they "love" my son the same way and when he is with them alone they give him all kinds of junk and its a constent arguement between us! We need Dr. Phil LOL! Anyway...as you can see you are NOT alone honey!!!

My hubby has never had a weight issue and loves every bad food choice on the planet. It's so hard when he brings home cookies, pizza, chicken wings, cake, cookies etc. (He works at a grocery store!)
I try to have him put his goodies in a cupboard I rarely look in and difficult to reach (above the fridge). Then I try to get treats that are healthy and I enjoy and put them at an easier access. It doesn't always work but it helps a bit.
My mom in law sent home chocolates at Christmas and I stuck them in the freezer for my husband. He didn't touch them for a week so I threw them out! That was hard to do but I was sooo proud for a few days after! And he forgot that we ever had them!

ditto about dumping it, but if you're like me it's really tough....my move is to stick it in the deep freeze on the way into the house. The secret to that is doublily wonderful.........
first, I really don't like "old" sweets, so I won't eat them even after thawed...
2nd, I won't buy more if I already have some @ home! like you, I hate to waste food.

If you gotta take home some goodies...I would do my best to only take my non-favorites. Anything to keep yourself moving forward:flowerforyou:

You've identified one great weakness, so you're way ahead of the program....remove all the temptation! WTG
