Hey y'all! So I am 23 and I have ADD, I am not on any medication, bc I am kinda anti meds, but I need a way to stop being ADD. I am trying to clean my house and I am in a cleaning mood, but there is so much to do I don't know where to start. All I keep doing is getting on facebook and MFP and I will start cleaning but I can't finish. I am married so I want my husband to come home to a clean home. He also does the cleaning and I appreciate it sooo much. I just want to clean for him. Now I am all depressed and sad because it is so overwhelming for me. What are ways you help your ADD--to concentrate?

when i was unemployed i couldn't afford my ADD medication. At that time i just really concentrated on my diet. I cut out fried foods and high fructose corn syrup. I ate lots of veggies, fruits, chicken, turkey, and whole wheat bread. NO SODA. This diet made me feel alot more energized and happy and i got house work done. I feel that it helped me.0

I have looked into this because my step daughter is ADHD. If you keep a fairly regular routine with regular bed time and wake time, making sure you get adequate sleep and combine it with a healthy eating style, you may find a difference.
Clean eating would be the way to go. This eliminates a lot of the chemicals and preservatives in pre-packaged foods. Focus on lots of fruits and veggies, whole grains and lean meats...basically a healthy eating style and cut out caffeine and you should see a difference.0 -
I have not had soda in like a month, and haven't really had processed foods besides half a pizza last night ( for the first time in a month) and a handful of pretzels like 3 days ago. My sleeping habits aren't to good, bc I don't get off work till midnight. hmmmmm0

coffee is a stimulant - similar to add medications.... it can be helpful to manage the symptoms over the short term....
If coffee works, you might be a good candidate for medication. If it doesn't work and infact makes it worse, I would suggest that you might suffer from anxiety related symptoms rather than ADD. (They can often be confused). Anxiety can cause ALOT of inattention. Caffiene makes anxiety worse, but would have some temporary benefit for ADD.
This simple experiment, might help you better define what sort of intervention might be helpful. There was something in your post, that makes me feel like it is more likely anxiety related than ADD.
I am a clinical psychologist, so I am not talking out of my hat here.....
I am not one to push medication, but ADD is quite difficult to treat without it. Mindfulness can be somewhat effective for ADD and very effective for Anxiety. That might be something you would like to consider. I am sure you could google it and get some ideas!0 -
I have a very difficult time beginning big tasks (even when I understand that 45 minutes a day will get the job done.)
So: as with exercising, or organizing, or any other task I logically know I need to take on, even though I don't want to, I schedule time for it. For cleaning, I divide the task into manageable chunks. (for instance: I clean all tubs, toilets, mirrors, sinks, counters on Saturdays, kitchen counters, sink, stovetop, microwave and washer/dryer on Sunday mornings; I then sweep/mop all tile/linoleum floors on Sunday evenings.)0 -
"fly lady" is a good home cleaning / organizational approach for those that have a hard time getting started. you could probably google this to for the the program!0
