Exercise and Weight gain

Hello all,

I walked 87,642 steps (more than 40 miles in the past week), am watching what I am eating and gained a pound. Has anyone else gained weight just from increasing walking? I am losing motivation…I can lay on the couch and gain a pound a week!

Would really appreciate some guidance! Thanks!

Kathy

you might be overestimating calories burned and ate back too much.
you might have ate more due to lack of energy and it might have been a caloric surplus
you might have retained more water.
watching what you are eating might not be the same as knowing what you are eating (overestimating, not measuring, mfp calculates wrong: look at nutritional stats before logging).

Look at the positive, you went longer and stronger.

You lose weight by eating fewer calories than you burn. Open your diary for personalized advice, but you're probably underestimating your food &/or overestimating your burns.

Darn it…you guys are so reasonable! I opened my journal for now..please be kind!

I don't think I am eating any worse than I was and I expected a loss. I think I exercised harder than fitbit gave me credit for.

I do think fluid has something to do with it though. Wondering if your body ends up getting used to the exercise; it is so discouraging. Thanks!

am watching what I am eating

What does that mean? How many calories in a deficit are you eating?

I think I opened my journal. It kind of varies, but I am generally under my goal. I do wonder if I have hit one of those dreaded plateaus. I had lost more weight and this may be where I was stuck before. I am definitely more toned and my clothes are looser.

I have been using it, but probably not as consistently as I should. It just seems to come off when I don't exercise. I have heard muscle holds water and I have always been kind of a sponge in the fluid retention department.

My suggestions is to use the food scale for everything, track accurately for a month and take a look at your progress then.

    Thanks. Will try it.

By the way, do you have suggestions for travel? We seem to be away from home more often than not which makes weighing and measuring more challenging. I'm already concerned about the cruddy food choices offered near my son's school this weekend. Perhaps that is the bigger issue...
