So, I'm doing millions of exercise just now ( every day really) - Cardio, strength, plyo.. . And yet when I run up a flight of stairs Im still out of breath when I get to the top! As in a normal house flight! It's not normal!

what's your cardio like? slower and more sustained? or hiit?
i would equate bangin out a set of stairs as hiit. lol
running on flat and running on an incline like that are 2 totally different beasts.0 -
Just keep working at it. It gets easier unless there are other issues as to why it does not.0

You might want to check the iron level in your blood. That's what carries oxygen to the rest of your body. Take a physical with some blood work and you'll know if there are any medical reasons. If not then just keep working at it.0

It won't be hard forever.0

do hill work. if you do cardio on the treadmill do it at an incline but be careful of your knees. try the stair stepper machine if they have one. boxing is another great form of cardio!0

Still happens to me, and I run 50 miles per week!0

^^This. It takes a while for cardio endurance to build. Give it time and you will feel the difference.0 -
I was just hoping I wasn't the only one!
Ive exercised regularly for years! squash once a week, insanity once a week and body pump weekly ( and I proper hammer that!) swimming on an occasion too ( 2lengths breast stroke at a steady speed then 2lengths fast crawl) . Recently started doing doing p90x a few weeks ago too! But stairs just get me . . .0 -
YES. No so much the stairs in my house, but there's a long flight of stairs at work (25+ stairs, I should really count it...) and I'm always out of breath after going up them! I can run 12+ miles no problem, and I do hill workouts on a weekly basis, but those stairs slay me. No idea why.0

Yup - I hate stairs - always take them two at a time for that very reason. I've been a runner for twenty years and I still find stairs exhausting. Did the Wreck Beach stairs a couple of months ago - 473 steps - had to stop twice to recover. :grumble:0

I was told (not by a professional, mind you) that everyone gets a little (or a lot) out of breath going up stairs. What's more important is how fast you recover from them. Stairs are tough, especially if you're running them!0

Exercise fitness is very specific to the exercise you do, although obviously you become generally fitter. But if you want to be able to run upstairs or walk upstairs easily you have to "train" yourself to run upstairs - lots of times!!0

No it is....it takes quite a while , if you didn't do it for all your lifetime you can't pretend a fit heart based on the amount of training but for example to run easily 5 km took me 6 months and plus shredding the weight i didn't need. You have to be patience now i realised that even if i stop for several months it doesn't take me much to have back the stones i did conquest.0 -
