Implanon implant & weight gain

I have had the Nexplanon implant in now for about 6 months. I have gained 30 pounds. At first I thought it was my work schedule and eating habits, but after changing my diet and exercising daily I was still gaining weight. I find it really offensive when other people comment that BC doesn't make you gain weight and that if you gain weight on BC its you're own fault. Weight gain is listed as a side affect for most BC. While being on Nexplanon I experienced an extremely increased appetite, frequent mood swings, so bad to the point where I had to be put on anti depressants, hair loss ( I'm shocked I'm not bald) headaches, my sex drive has died as well but some of that I is more then likely due to the antidepressants, and nausea so bad that I thought I was pregnant again. I also bleed at random times of the months. Of course all BC will effect each person differently. Some gain weight, some don't. Some have a lot of side effects, some don't. Simple as that. So far Nexplanon has not agreed with me at all. I'm having it taken out in about a week. Very excited. I'm hoping afterwards my dieting and exercising will be more effective and I can lose the 30 ponds I gained while on Nexplanon.0

I've had the implant for that past few years and always had the same weight until i started losing this year, its never been a problem for me although when i had my first one taken out and a new one put in, my hormones were crazy, its not the contraception that makes you gain, its the possible increase of appetite that can result in overeating in my opinion.0

I gained 35 lbs as well. 15 in the first 3 months and the rest in 6 months. I ate healthy and exercised regularly but still gained the weight. I tried everything I could to loose the weight and it was impossible. One thing I found pretty strange about my weight gain was that my belly grew like I was pregnant. That was the most depressing part of my weight gain because 3 or for times a day I had people asking me if I was pregnant. I was miserable the whole time on implanon because of the weight gain. I hardly had periods and that really worried me. And when I did have any my blood would be brown as if were old blood. One day towards the end if the 3 year , I had a period for a month and a half straight. I bled as if I was bleeding for all the times I did not bleed. During the time of this long period I lost all 35 lbs. I did not know what to think. It was as if the blood was clotted inside and I had a body cleanse. I have had several contraception methods but this one was the strangest experience ever. Like some people say everybody is different and that is true. I am sure there are plenty of people who have had this method and nothing major happend. I am just here to share what happend to me. I have had 4 children and never gained this much weight with any of them and had trouble loosing it. Implanon did cause me to gain weight.0

Now of course everyone's bodies react differently however.. I got the depo once, picked up 20lbs plus acne. & I got the implanon July 2013 while I was breastfeeding I didn't notice any weight gain because I normally loose weight breastfeeding but, once I stopped in January 2014, the weight rushed on in.. 40lbs to be exact.
this is my first time on this implant & I'm pretty active with 5 sons.. I'm so ready to take this thing out my arm, I just fear which control I should try next0 -
I had Implanon and I gained weight; after about a year with no side effects it all piled on. My GP said it was because it can make you gain weight - she said a maximum of 3lbs was as a result of the implant itself directly, and also some people feel hungry all the time with it in. I asked how to deal with that, and she said to snack on low-calorie things, so I asked her to take it out because it made me crave not-low-calorie things and it was torture.0

I have been on Implanon for 3 years now. I got it a month or so after having my last child. Since then I have worked everyday to lose weight. I run between 5-7 miles at least 5 times a week plus strength training and insanity. All high intensity creating a deficit almost everyday! I'm going crazy not being able to lose any weight. I try to stay around 1500 calories 6 days a week. So this is why I have figured the only change in my life has been birth control. I Am not one to believe it but I can't figure it out. I have it taken out tomorrow and will post an update if weight shifts in right direction.0

I'm on my second Implanon. I replaced it about 6 months ago. I have gained around 20kg/40lbs since I had y first one. Just in the last 10 months or so i've gained around 10kgs of that. Regardless of eating well and moving from a town where I drove everywhere to the city were I walk and have an active job...I just have piled on the pounds. I'm going to have it removed ASAP and give my body a break from all the synthetic hormones.0

Thank god I am not alone! I had my implanon put in last year and I literally have no clothes left that fit! I have piled on 20kg! Now while my diet and exercise is not the best it has never caused me to put on this much weight!!! And the only thing that changed was the implant! I am actually running and dieting more than I ever have but nothing is going! Like I can put on 2kg in a week with no effort!!!! I had depo previously with absolutely no issue but I can't stay on it due to a history of osteoporosis in my family... Going to give the diet one final push, and if it doesn't work I'm back to the docs to take it out!0

I have the Nexplanon, which is the same thing. I got the implant back in July. I have been able to continue losing weight without any problems. I have other side effects, like horrible anxiety and constant spotting, but no weight gain. Ultimately, the implant won't make you gain weight. It might increase your appetite, which would cause you to eat more, or possibly cause some excess water weight. I read about the possible weight gain before getting the implant, so I've been very conscious of how much I eat, etc.1
