I feel better but weigh more??

I've started my road fitness again and this week I have been doing light weights and body weight exercises and eating much healthier and power walking with dog for an hour twice a day every day. Why have I gained 2 lbs?

This is 100% more than I would usually do by the way! I know muscle weighs more than fat etc but I wouldn't have thought I'd have gained muscle in a week that out weighs the amount of weight I should have lost from exercise and cardio considering I usually do little to no exercise. Help please.

    If you just started a new exercise routing, you're likely to put on a bit of temporary weight to begin with. Your muscles are retaining water in order to repair themselves. It should drop off in a week or 2.
  • Thank you Jennifer, just got me down a bit considering I put so much effort in but I do feel a lot better. Just would have thought being 16 stone I would have seen it fly off right away. Guess I'm inpatient lol.

    so you'd rather weigh less but feel like crap!?

    surely feeling good is the most important part of this whole journey?!

    Please don't get discouraged over a few pounds, especially with new workout routines - there are many factors in play, including sodium intake and water retention, like mentioned above. Eventually though, you may want to move beyond the scale and use photos from many angles, body measurements of chest/waist/hips/etc, and BF% to measure success - I personally think it's a much healthier way of viewing ourselves....good luck!

    I understand, that does happen for some people, usually water weight at the beginning. I wasn't one of them, lol!

    The posters above are right about the water weight. It seems discouraging, but it's actually encouraging. If you gain water weight, that means your body is ready to transform.

    I don't even bother with my scale anymore to be honest, I hate that thing. I'm getting all kindzzz of results regarding waist measurements and cutting/definition but the scales seems intent on hating..

    haha scales definitely lie! i weigh almost as much as when i started using MFP but am 2 sizes down and feel better than ever. if i just went by weight, it would be discouraging; it doesn't tell the full story.

    I feel like throwing my scales out of the window I am so frustrated with them. I lost 7lb's the first week, and 3lb the next week so I was delighted. But over the last 3 weeks I have stayed exactly the same weight despite sticking to my calorie goal and picking up more exercise. Is this just temporary? Please tell me the weight is going to start dropping off again!

    If you feel good about yourself, try just weighing once a month. The fat will come off but the scale can be your worst enemy.

    Weight is the least meaningful metric.
