I have the Polar FT4. I've had it for about 2 years now and I really like it.0

Tx mary, is the chest strap annoying? and can anyone else see it when youve got it on?0

The chest strap doesn't bother me, but of course I'm using to wearing a bra. Nobody else can see it on me. It might be different for a man though.0

Just an FYI...a HRM is excellent for monitoring your HR which is (can be) important as you get into fitness and strive to work in different zones. A HRM is relatively accurate for calorie burn for a sustained aerobic event like running or biking, etc...it's pretty much useless for estimating calories burned from anaerobic activities like weight lifting.
Your HR is not directly correlated to your calorie burn...if it was, I'd just have someone come into my office and give me a good scare every 5 minutes or so and would have little need to actually workout.
If you do get one, invest in one with a chest strap...no, it's not bothersome. A Polar FT4 is a good, reasonably priced, basic HRM that serves the purposes of most people.0 -
I have the FT4 and love it. I use it primarily for running. It would work just as we'll for cycling.
I'm not sure it would be worth wearing for weight lifting though, no HRM would give you an accurate calorie burn estimate for that.0
