Just having too much fat - I don't know what to do!!

I always had a pretty low fat diet. I was going myfitnesspal before and I never went over on the fat content. Course, I didn't loose any weight and I was always hungry!

My diet was always very good. Vegetarian, not too bad on the protein, loads of veg and whole grain, low fat - but masses of carbs, especially sugar! No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't reduce the sugar! So I've basically got rid of them all together! Only sugar I have now are small amounts in the non-sweet stuff and lactose. Generally, I avoid as much fructose as possible.

It's been working really well! I feel much better, and don't feel hungry. I feel healthier. My carb intake is much less and I'm loosing around a pound a week.

Trouble is, I seem to be having way way more fat now. Sometimes 40-50% of the intake a day! I'm trying to cut it down, but it seems impossible to cut down the fat on a low sugar diet! Like, the main culprit is snacking on a few nuts, or low fat peanut butter, which I eat for the extra protein. I'll have little bits of protein here and there and it all seems to add up!!

Any advice would be so hugely appreciated!!

If you're getting enough protein and not too many calories, I guess I'm missing the issue.

Seconded. Fat (and protein) help you feel full longer. Your body needs fat. So long as it's within your calorie goals, it's fine. And if you cut sugar, you had to get cals somewhere.

Fat doesn't make you fat! You lose weight by eating fewer calories than you burn.

I use MFP's protein & fiber goals as minimums and ignore fat & carbs. It will take trial & error to find what works for you.

QFT. I pretty much ignore MFP's fat goals.

To be honest, if you look at my food diary I don't even track macros at all. I see it as too many stupid numbers to try and hit. I lose weight with calories in and calories burned. Macros get more important to follow when in maintence and strength building in my oppinion

You should track your protein, as it is critical to get enough while in a deficit to prevent as much lean mass loss as possible.

Nuts and nut butters contain healthy fats. I wouldn't worry unless you're eating a lot of cheese which contains saturated fat.

Eating 40% fat (or even a lot of carbs) is not a problem as long as you are hitting your minimum protein goal. Minimum protein should be about 1 gram of protein per pound of lean body mass.

Yeah I don't look at fat either. Or carbs for that matter. I just focus on the protein, calories and fiber.

I'll echo what everyone else is saying-- make sure you're getting enough protein. If you're doing a lot of exercise you may find that you need more carbs though. I have a hard time if I get much below 200 grams. But I'm regularly over on fat and it hasn't ever caused any problems.

I don't either. Yeah I'll review them from time to time just out of curiousity, but not to try to hit any specific numbers. On the protein side, I just try to learn about more protein sources and adjust my meals and overall Diet to get "as much as possible". I figure I couldn't possibly eat too much protein as I never get above say, 150g as it is
