The timing of this post is funny...I was just asked last week by two different people if I'm training for a powerlifting comp, and I told both of them I'm not strong enough yet.
Great job OP!0 -
I love this. You're the kind of person that a lot of folks can take some confidence from. Keep being awesome, lady! ♥0

I was by far the largest lady lifting that day.
I wasn't the strongest person lifting (by a long way) on the day.
I did NOT ONCE feel judged for my weight. Not the weight on my body, or the weight on the bar.
I did however feel like I was part of a team.
You have been and continue to be a real inspiration to me! Your posts help me keep the right mindset! Thanks so much for that!0 -

Awesome! I had my first powerlifting comp back in April. I had a similair experience as you. I was the heaviest girl by about 30 lbs and they didn't have weight divisions for girls. They just divided your total weight lifted by your body weight and it hurt me bad....because all the other ladies were quite a bit tinier than me. I lifted the most weight for a female but placed dead last BUT I pr's in every lift! Definitely a possitive experience!
Good for you for giving it a go!0 -
That is FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!0

I think these numbers are fantastic. Congrats!0

Very well done!0

Fantastic accomplishment! How long did you train for this competition? Did you use a trainer or did you follow a program on your own? I am interested in getting into power lifting but not sure where to start.0

I didn't train specifically for this comp. I hurt my knee (running for coffee) in March, so I've been working around that.
I do have a trainer, he's fantastic, you don't need one... But if you've not lifted before, it's an excellent way to get your form checked and increase your confidence.
StrongLifts, NROLFW or the Girls Gone Strong programs are all good starting points.0 -
Absolutely fantastic!0

Great pics and inspiration! I'm toying with the idea of real strength training now that I've lost too much weight. I am becomming a Zumba instructor and don't have a lot of time for another pursuit, but I figure I have to do something every day, anyway, so it would take much change in my schedule to swap a cardio class for an hour of strength training.0

Resistance training is really important as we age, it keeps your bones strong.0 -
