effects of genetics on squats

Do genetics play a role in how much muscle you gain from squats in your butt? Can one go from a flat butt to a bigger butt regardless of genetics? Can everyone see the same results from squats regardless of genetics if they eat and do the same workout?

Genetics will definitely impact how you look when you add muscle to your body.
I've always had skinny legs, a flat butt, and carry my extra weight in my stomach/chest.
Now, I'm squatting 300 lbs, and my legs are still small, but much more muscular, my butt isn't quite as flat and I still carry my extra weight in my chest and stomach. No matter how strong I get, my legs aren't going to look like I'm an olympic sprinter, my body doesn't have the capacity to do that, but the stronger I get, the better my legs and butt look, so that's good enough for me.0 -
Genetics play a large role in how much fat and muscle we carry on different parts of our bodies. There are some people who can squat all day and night they will never have a bubble rump. In the same way that I will always carry most of my body fat in my hips (when I was underweight in high school, I was still a size 8 in jeans).0

Genetics will always play some role in everything we do. Training and nutrition will also play large roles, of course.
That said, blaming genetics is no reason to not do squats just because you fear you won't get a nice round bubble butt! NOT doing squats is a sure way to never get that butt.0 -
I am not blaming genetics. I'm just curious bc I have heard and read many things about squats.0

They are a great all round, full body exercise. They target your core, hamstrings and quadriceps as well as your glutes (butt) (and other muscles). Most people consider them an essential part of any weight training regimen.
However, if you specifically want to target your glutes, you may want to add other exercise like hip thrusts. See this page for example: http://bretcontreras.com/0
