BIG THIGHS....

Can anyone recommend any exercises that could help tone/slim the thighs? My thighs are by far the biggest part of my body and it's a nightmare to get trousers to fit. They fit my thighs, but then they're too big around the waist so they just keep falling down. Alternatively, they'll fit the waist but be too small for my thighs. -_- Help!

Continue to lose weight. We can't pick where the fat comes from. Our body loses and stores fat where it wants. Unfortunately your thighs will probably be one of the last areas to go. However I would suggest you get a good solid weight lifting program like Strong Lifts 5x5. Lifting while you lose maintains muscle while losing fat which is usually what people want when they say "tone". I'd also suggest a tailor to take in the waists of your pants. I have this problem even at a healthy weight.

^yep. I have the same issue as well. While I do lose weight off my lower half, along with everywhere else, I am still proportionately bigger on my bottom half and have this problem even at a low BF%...I find low rise pants and a tailor are my friends.
  • Thanks for the advice, ladies! I've started to do some leg exercises, and whilst they feel firmer, they're still big. I guess I'll just have to stick to the yoga pants until they go down....

Unfortunately, you can't spot reduce. I'll also warn you that building muscle in your thighs/legs may actually make them larger.

Except it's pretty difficult to build muscle while dieting.

Do cardio and continue with MFP, as you lose weight your thighs will trim down. When you lose weight, your body loses it off every part.

I have the very same problem - I hate my *kitten* and my legs.

I loose weight and become petite every where else but my bum and thighs *sigh*

Totally not true. If you weight train you'll build muscle deficit or not.

As others said, you can't spot train. As you lose weight you'll eventually lose fat on your thighs, but you may always keep similar proportions. Fat comes off wherever it feels like. I also have big thighs and a relatively small waist. It'll probably always be that way. Find a brand of jeans that fit right or get jeans tailored, and learn to love your shape

The statement is not incorrect. It *is* pretty difficult (if not virtually impossible in some cases) to build muscle on a deficit (outside certain situations such as if you are obese or, for new lifters, limited newbie gains).

Explain to me how your body is going to build new tissue when it doesn't have enough energy to maintain the tissue it has? It's like expecting a fireplace that is burning wood to magically generate new wood.
