When Was Your Breaking Point?

When was the moment when you said, ugh, I need to lose weight. Mine was my wedding. I always felt kind of overweight, but overall I had a lot of confidence. But when we got pictures from my wedding, I felt hideous. I've never been repulsed by myself before, and that was my breaking point. What was yours? Or did you always know?

I knew I wanted to lose weight....then I knew I had to start losing weight! Was really hard to get motivated. Then I joined a Weight Loss Challenge. I almost cried when i stood on the scale and saw what I actually weighed!!! That was the moment I knew I had to change, lose weight, and get healthy. And yay, i won my challenge! But still about 30lbs away from my goal!!0

I was a junior in high school. I hadn't been weighed in over a year, and the last reading had been 220- but tightly fitting into my size 28 pants I stepped on the scale and the needle jumped clear aroound the dial to 320. I had been in such denial about the way I was living. I've never lived like that again.0

I was lucky or well unlucky actually to always be treated like a pretty girl and not a fat girl so I knew I was thick but was choosing not to see how bad it had gotten. This was when I did see; a size 18 denim skirt being too tight and uncomfy when I'd worn it a year earlier and it fit and I was most definitely unhappy and grossed out to be an 18 in the first place when I'd previously worn the skirt so to be bigger than that was just....not okay. I started changing my eating habits and doing low impact exercises. Worked my way up to more and got results. That was about a year ago, since then I have lost 72lbs.0

I know I was in denial for sure! I knew I wanted to change I always talked about it and one morning I said to myself I am really sick of being Fat and not happy with the way I look. I still have alot to lose but taking before pictures and seeing what 20 LB's can do to your body. I feel so much better already and cant wait for the next 20 LB's to be gone. But when I put my before and after pictures side by side. I was seriously shocked to see how bad I let myself go. I knew I was chubby lol but never really realized how unhealthy I was. I am so greatful to have found this site and so many people to support me on this journey. Never ever again will I be in the 200's.
Good luck with your weightloss journey!0 -
THE TRUTH WAS WHEN I BROKE MY ANKLE TWO YEARS AGO YOU MIGHT SAY TWO YEARS AGO BUT I HAVE ALLSO BEEN TRYING TO STOP SMOKING . SO I HAVE BEEN DOING REALLY GOOD WITH NOT PUTTING ON A LOT OF WEIGHT I WOULD BE ABOUT SIXTY POUNDS MORE RIGHT NOW IF I HAD NOT BEEN TRYING TO DIET RIGHT NOW I"M AT THE BREAKING POINT BECAUSE I AM JUST STAYING THE SAME NOT GOING DOWN SO I"M GETTING READY TO KICK MY BUTT INTO OVER DRIVE AND TAKE THIS WEIGHT OFF IN A YEAR
GOOD LUCK0 -
I knew I needed to lose weight when I saw myself in a video. All we saw was the street and then the camera panned up and I was shocked. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. That couldn't be me. Even though I had gained so much weight and had to buy bigger clothes in my mind eye I was still slim. When I looked in the mirror I never saw the real me. I saw what I use to be. I had serious blinders on and so did my hubby. He was sitting with me reviewing the playback and he was shocked. He said he hadn't realize how much weight I had put on. Over 160 lbs. He is in the military so he has to stay in standards so now I am setting a standard for myself.0

Mine is a similar story to Desirai.
I had a new years eve party and my partner was taking videos of it. I sat down the next day and watched it and was so so embarrassed! I never saw myself as THAT big. I knew I was overweight but thought I looked ok anyway.
I felt so sick to the stomach seeing the roll of skin from my elbow and the huge tummy I never noticed. Then the real breaking point was when I heard my partner say "WIDE LOAD!!" as I bent over to hug someone. I know he was drunk but it hurt so much that it kicked me into action.0 -

I could not hate myself for one more day. Living with the constant negative self talk and self loathing was completely unbearable. I escaped my inner-critic by binging. The binge would end and my inner-critic would be sure to kick me when I was down which drove me BACK into the arms of food for escape (I'd say 'comfort', but it wasn't comforting. I checked out when I binged. Went numb).
I decided to love myself as I was. 100%. I looked in the mirror at my heaviest and told myself how beautiful and amazing I was. I countered every negative thought from that moment on. Now my inner-critic is very quiet.
When I finally gave myself the support and reassurance I'd been waiting for the world to provide, it was relatively easy to take care of myself. When you love something, you want to do nice things to it/for it. I, and my body by extension, was now something I loved.
