Am I going over board on fats?

Hi! I have found the other users on here so helpful and reading through others questions, so I was wondering if I could ask y'all a question on fats that has been a little worrying to me recently??

MFP says that I should aim for a max of 79g fat a day. I am under calories, but I still get to 79 with no problems at all, and often struggle not going over! Is it ok to go waaay over in fats?

I still eat carbs and protein with lots of fruit and veggies, and I think my main sources of fat are mainly nuts, full fat dairy, salmon, oils used in cooking, eggs and mayonnaise.

Is eating such a high amount of fat unhealthy? On average about 40-45% of my calories end up coming from fats! haha

Thankyou!!

You are perfectly fine. Fats are good.

What are your stats and what is your protein intake like? Typically, it's recommended 1g per pound of lean body mass in protein.

Going over on fats isn't inherently bad, so as long as your other macros and micros are being met. I treat fats and protein as minimum. Then, I make sure I'm getting my fiber. Carbs are high because I'm pretty active but that one bounces depending on the day

In terms of weight loss, it's irrelevant.

MFP's default numbers aren't technically maximums or minimums for weight loss. They're simply a goal based on one way of setting your macros. You can adjust those macros however you want and still lose, and many of us aim to be in the red on fats most days, anyway.

If you have no medical reason to limit your fats and you're hitting your other nutritional goals (remember MFP sets their default protein pretty low, so aim to be in the red there, too) then you should be fine.

Thanks for your insights! I get around 85g protein a day, around 20%? I am not really trying to loose any weight, just keep a healthy diet! :D
