polar FT7 question

is the polar FT7 supposed to sync with my phone without buying anything?
i have a samsung S4, which is on their list of devices, and i downloaded the polar beat app. but when i go to settings in the app and select HR sensor and try to pair, it just keeps searching, even though my heart rate is showing in the watch. so i'm not sure if i need to buy something, to know something - i searched the manual but didn't find info about pairing - or do something i'm unaware of.
any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi! I've got a FT7, too, but it's not connecting to any phones. It will, however, link with some gym equipment. Their Polar H7 (no wrist watch type, chest strap only) will link to an iPhone 4s with Bluetooth (also some Android phones, all with Bluetooth) and will use the Polar app.
If you want data transfer, then you need this for the FT7.

Otherwise, you just have to type in the data the old fashioned way....
Good luck!0 -
thanks for the response. so i have to buy the flowlink to communicate with my phone? that's disappointing.0

You're welcome....
Sadly, no.... The flowlink is for data transfer to a computer... Check out polarpersonaltrainer.com... I never used it, but it's a way to track training progress and workouts....
If you want a HRM that goes with the phone, this would be the one I have... It can connect with the training/tracking website by logging into the phone app, and it tracks workouts right the phone app, too.

Actually, looking at the price of the flowlink, compared to a new H7, you could almost consider selling your FT7... I've seen the H7 for under $60 at other websites.. It works with a Samsung S4, according to the website...
Again, good luck!0 -
I just got my Polar h7 and I used the mapmyfitness app and linked it on the computer first. It linked up with my mfp app after you accept the "mapmyfitness" request on the computer. Do the linking on your computer first and then go to your phone. It added all of my past info together on both sites and my phone. I use a Samsung galaxy s3 with the updated software.

Ok I had this concern also. All of my info in my FT7 was suppsoed to sync up with an app on my phone and laptop and neither worked. I'm going to have to try this again.0

Don't buy on the Polar website, I've seen them for under $50.0 -

The H7 is an additional sensor. It does not record anything. It is simply a transmitter. Yes. It will also work with the FT7 wrist watch. It transmits both bluetooth and the 5kHz signal that the watches pick up.

EDIT: To be more clear I have BOTH the FT7 and the Polar H7 sensor. They are compatible. If you wear the H7 sensor on a chest strap your FT7 watch will pick up the signal. It's sort of pointless however when you can just log the stuff on your phone directly without the need for the wrist watch unless you choose to use the watch as a means to see your heart rate during exercise. The data recorded on the watch will not be transferred to your phone at a later time. You need to use the phone DURING the exercise in order to capture it with an app such as RunKeeper.0 -
I've got both of them, too, and have used them for almost 2 years. It surprises me, however, that your wrist watch will pick up a strange sensor. It is not supposed to do this. They are supposed to stay on individual frequencies, Anybody in the gym with the wrist watch type would otherwise get interference.
O well....at least anybody in the market for a first HRM who already has a compatible phone, will do just fine with the cheaper H7. Even more so, because the app will sync to the online log without the need for yet an extra gadget..0
