after workout snack

i read an article one time that suggested a great post work out snack would be a sandwich made from peanutbutter and a drizzle of honey. any opinions on this would be appreciated...

Seems like a good snack.
I usually have a small banana and low fat/low sodium string cheese. That way I get a little good carb & protien.0 -
I would have thought that as long as it is wholegrain bread it should be ok - other ideas are 1/2 bagel and peanut butter, oatcakes and peanut butter a plain banana or a protein shake
your snack should be complex carbohydrates and protein - one thing to be careful of is dont counterbalance all your hard work with a snack or treat - the snack is to refuel and to help rebuild muscle that has been torn down during the workout not to eat a snickers because you think you deserve it hard I know - (even though technically a snickers does have protein in with the peanuts - thats my excuse any way !!)
another point to make is the general consensus is to eat a balanced snack with in 3/4 hr which is when the body is still in fat burning mode and you get the most benefit from the food while still burning the calories0 -
If I have been working hard weight lifting....I like a whey protein shake with fruit in it0

They say milk especially chocolate full-fat milk is best. Putting a lot of carbs into your body right away seems counterproductive. Protein will help you recover so have some milk, a yogurt or a protein shake.0

I try to keep an apple and a small gatorade in my car if I'm working out at the gym or swimming. otherwise, i somehow end up-starving- at the grocery store on my way home....and you know how bad that can be.0

Really, the best thing you can eat after a workout is a shake designed for post workout. ESPECIALLY if you do a session of heavy strength training, a protein shake will benefit you the most. I would think the peanut butter sandwich would be alright, just as long as it's whole wheat, natural honey, and natural peanut butter. I also wouldn't use more than a thin layer of peanut butter.
An easy and yummy post workout snack is a glass of 1% chocolate milk. It has the perfect ratio of carbs to whey protein that your body needs to help itself recover.0 -
Thanks everyone for the input. i have a whey protien mix but i dont like the taste, so trying to find something else so i dont have the same thing every day. I have a 7 year old.. the chocolate milk sounds great but he and i will fight for it...lol0
