What does your grocery list look like?

Options
Hi! I'm making out my shopping list for tomorrow and I'm interested in ideas for lower calorie and carb good choices (on the llower end if cost).
I've had to play around with my diet as I get so hungry during the evening and end up binge eating. Looking back I've decided to drop my carb intake so I need some ideas. However I'm not going as low as induction phase on Atkins.

Also I'm just looking for some cheap ideas for food. I don't want to get bored with food. What are some of your favorites? Anything helps! Thanks!

I like to use the crock pot on Sundays to prepare a batch of meals. It's cost and time effective. I tend to cut fresh salad veggies and toss em in a tupperware with a paper towel, and they last the week in the fridge.

I do the same with cut, mixed purple and green cabbage.

I serve the crock pot stews over the cabbage mix(i prefer noodles or rice, but cabbage is waaaay lower calories!). I can freeze the stewed meat, so i've always got a little variety on hand.

    Breakfast for the week:
    dozen eggs
20 oz. of deli ground sausage (4 oz. per day)

Salad for the week (chop and toss it into big tupperware, with paper towel)
    head of lettuce
    orange bell pepper
    grape tomatoes
    fresh baby spinach
cheese and dressing as needed, added when i'm ready to eat

dinner for the week (cook it in the crock pot, freeze/refrigerate as needed, serve over fresh cabbage):
    2.5 pounds of chicken thighs
    package of grape tomatoes
    serrano pepper
    sliced mushrooms

I can switch out the chicken above with pork loin or shoulder, or beef shoulder or stew cuts.

Going around the store, we start with bread and end with fizzy water. Most of our time and the space in the cart are spent in the produce section. This week we got
    corn on the cob
    summer squash
    cilantro
    parsley
    beets
    carrots
    mushrooms
    spinach
    green cabbage
    leaf lettuce
    cucumbers
    green peppers
    lemons
    limes
    rhubarb
    clementine oranges
    cherries
    blueberries
    canteloupe
    ...
It was a fairly typical week for veggies. I also stocked up on canned beans since it's too hot to boil beans in the summer.

Typically, I watch the sales and get things to pack for the freezer and use long term. This week frozen shrimp, chicken thighs, and our favorite brand of hot dogs were on sale. I cooked all the chicken thighs so I would have meal-sized packages of cooked chicken in the freezer for salads and the like.

We may get a few things in the aisles. This week, it was canned beans (too hot to boil in the summer), tuna, oat bran, and Cheerios.

We then hit the dairy cases and typically stock up on Lactaid for me, unsweetened almond milk for hubby, plain yogurt to be drained to make Greek-style yogurt or labneh, light string cheese, eggs, etc.

We also keep ourselves stocked with nuts -- lately in-the-shell peanuts.

I went grocery shopping tonight. This week's list looked like this:

Vegetables: Mushrooms, broccoli, carrots, greens, lettuce, tomatoes
    Fruit: Apples, bananas, mango, nectarines
    Margarine
    Coleslaw
    Chorizo
    Deli ham
    Granola bars
    Sun dried tomatoes
    Whole wheat pasta
Diet Coke (found a multipack that was greatly reduced because someone had taken a can out of it) :)
    Sugar
    Tea bags
    Bran flakes
    Almond milk
    Crisps
    Whole chicken
3 packages of boneless, skinless chicken breasts

That's a fairly typical list, except for the Diet Coke. I hardly ever buy it. That pack of 7 (should have been 8!) will last me about 2 months.

    Some (fairly) low carb tips:

Cheese sticks are a perfect low carb snack. Always have them around. If you want to cut calories, Cabot 50% fat block cheese is perfect. Pair it with something like cherry tomatoes or sliced deli meat. Yum!
Canned chicken and canned tuna are also great to grab. Add some mayo or your favorite condiment, very tasty. :) Get creative adding chopped up veggies in it, too, like celery or onions or even carrots, and your favorite spices (lemon herb chicken? Tuna with Old Bay?)

    Our grocery list was:
    2 bunches of bananas
    sliced mushrooms
    mangoes
    peaches
    kiwis
    avocado
    tomatoes
    cherry tomatoes
    bag salad
fingerling potatoes that steam in the bag
    frozen broccoli
Chobani or So Delicious yogurts (dairy free)
3 lbs of boneless, skinless chicken breast (cook in crockpot and use shredded chicken for a few days)
    beer pizza dough (for husband)
    gluten-free pizza dough (for me)
    ...and pizza fixin's
    baked beans (hubby's favorite)
Jones frozen sausage, one pork and one turkey (I mix- don't like turkey sausage in general but it's fewer calories)
    applewood smoked bacon

I tend to get lunch at work and hubby eats leftovers.
We had BLT's last night and we are having homemade pizza tonight. I am not the best at thinking up dinners anymore, since I'm getting a bit tired of the menu reel so beyond that, who knows.

Other things I make are tilapia cooked in foil packets with sliced peppers and Caribbean rice (Zatarain's), tacos, sloppy joes, homemade mac and cheese, crockpot pork tenderloin with sliced apples and onions, lasagna. I can't really think of anything else since I'm spent and the smell of the pizza baking is driving me insane. XD I hope that helps!

    Roughly:

1 kg of steak (whatever fatty cut is on sale... < $10 / lb ... which means $22 or less)
    18 eggs ($2.97)
1 kg of 80/20 ground beef ($10-$13 ish)
    1 lb cheese ($5)
Sardines or Tuna (pref. in oil) x 2 ($4-$5)

That's about ~$45/week on my staple foods. My fiancee doesn't eat low carb, so her shopping is separate from mine. Yeah, cooking two different meal plans is a pain, but it works for me.

These are give and take numbers. This isn't everything... it works out to about 1,500 calories a day. That's below what I eat (1900-2000). There is butter, heavy cream, and bacon that I include. Those I buy in bulk and they last several weeks. Also, there's sour cream when I want it. Some seasonings. And, the beef can be traded out for other meats if they're on sale or I want a change (like a whole chicken, pork chops, turkey, a pork roast, whatever).

Some of my food I don't get from a grocery store (like my eggs, apples, and berries) but what I DO buy in a store is:

yogurt (preferably grass-fed, but only when it's on sale)
green lentils (highest protein and fiber vs carb count)
chicken thighs only when less than $1.50 a pound
    any beef on clearance
    any cream on clearance
bell peppers when they're 99 cents each
marked-down vegetables when I'm going to eat them that day
liver when marked down (almost always is, I buy 4 and freeze them all)
    rice
