Breakfast - timing important?

I get up at 5:30 in the morning and am not hungry when I first get up. By the time I get to work and get settled, it is around 8:30 before I eat breakfast - usually oatmeal, milk and a banana. I know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that it sort of wakes up your metabolism, but I wonder if I should try to eat a little something earlier (like string cheese or something) or if eating my regular breakfast around 8:30 is okay?

I always set the timer on the coffee maker. Within 10 minutes of getting out of bed I am sipping on a cup. The caffeine wakes up your metabolism. I also dont eat until around 8:30-9:00. If I ate at 6 when I woke up, I would have a lot of hours of meals ahead.0

It is suggested that you eat withing an hour of waking up to rev up your metabolism for the day, and to get your body out of fasting mode that occurs while we sleep.0

Yep, I read about that too. I know I'm not that hungry when I first wake up either, but maybe you could try eating a banana as well within an hour of waking up, and then eat your normal breakfast at work. An extra banana will only add about 100 calories, and it's full of nutrients.0 -
I do the same thing, I get up at 5: and wait till 7: but have the breakfast except I have blueberrys with the oatmeal. I have not problem with my noon lunch. I have been doing this since August 2010 with some changes of course in the meal. But I don't need a snack.0

I do manage to have a cup of coffee and 24 ounces of water while I'm getting ready for work and then eat breakfast when I get here. Maybe I'll have the banana while I'm getting ready and then just the oatmeal made with milk when I get to work. Thanks for your help!0

When I first get up to begin my morning it is between 5-6 am so I grab a cup of OJ and a banana. Once the kids are gone (8:30) I will hop on the treadmill for 30 minutes. (roughly 9-9:15) Now it is time to shower and begin my day, which is when I make my own breakfast. I normally have cereal & a yogurt, or a fruit smoothie or I'll have a breakfast burrito. This will tide me over until lunch.0
