I would like to make a good stir fry but have never made any before. I have seen the large packets in the frozen section at the grocery store; are those good and what do you cook it with or do you have a simple, yummy recipe? I dont have a stir fry pan, does that matter?

  • Pan does not matter.... just use a larger frying pan.
Stir fry is exactly that, higher heat and stir it to cook it.
Fresh veggies are much better than the bagged - taste texture and content.
    easy rules:
cut/chop all veggies to approx the same size, carrots, cauliflower, and onions take longer to cook
find a lid or something (pizza tin) to use as a lid
you can substitute just about any veggie for one another

    Family Favorite Stir Fry
1 lb meat (lean beef or skinless chicken breast) cut into 1/8" slices
    3 T soy sauce
    1 T white wine
    1/2 t ground ginger
    3 T canola oil
    1 1/2 c sliced carrots
    1 1/2 c sliced cauliflower
handful pea pods or green beans
    4 to 6 green onions 1/2" slices
    1 4oz can mushrooms - drain & reserve liquid
    1/2 c cold water
    2 T cornstarch
    1/2 t sugar
mix soy sauce, wine, & ginger - marinate meat at least 15 minutes longer better
preheat 1 T oil in pan at med-hi heat
add carrots, stir-fry for 2 minand reserved mushroom liquid, cover and steam 4 min.
    set carrots aside
heat 1 T oil in pan, add cauliflower and pea pods stir-fry for 2 min - push to side of pan
add onions & mushrooms stir-fry 2 min push to side of pan also
(you can remove from pan if out of room)
    heat 1 T oil in pan - add 1/2 meat stir-fry for 2-3 min
    push to side
    stir-fry remaining meat
add carrots and other veggies back in - stir
Combine water, cornstarch, and sugar. Stir into meat/veggie mixture. cook until thickened.

6 servings serve over rice or noodles.

I have not checked calorie or nutrition content - you can put into mfp to find out.
