Losing way faster than MFP says?

Hi all, I started logging in earnest just a week ago, so this post may be premature, but I'll ask anyway.

I'm female, 59 years old, 5'3", trying to get from 300 pounds down to 125 or whatever my goal ends up being.

Because I have so much to lose, I chose MFP's 2-pound-a-week option. For my first week, that gave me 1380 calories a day (sedentary and have not started exercising yet).

I was careful in my logging and ate almost exactly 1380 each day. Today was my first weigh-in. I crossed my fingers hoping that I had lost those 2 pounds, and discovered that I had lost 11!

Am simultaneously thrilled and a bit concerned. I know it's the first week, so may be deceptive for that reason with water weight or whatever. But now, with the weight loss, MFP has taken me down 60 more calories to 1320 a day.

What is the protocol here? If I continue to lose at a rapid rate, should I be bumping up the calories?

I know, nice problem to have.

    The first week or two almost always yields large results. Unfortunately, it does slow down. It's most likely water weight.

    Yes the first couple weeks are water weight. I would do what your doing for a couple more weeks and then make adjustments after that.

    Initial losses tend to be larger as you do lose fat, but you also lose a lot of water weight and because you are eating less you have less waste in your system. This is true for just about everyone and particularly for heavier individuals. Enjoy it...it wont last...soon enough you'll be just like everyone else and hoping and praying that a few ounces came off.
