Same workout getting more difficult?

Hey

Thought id throw this question out to see if others have experienced this. Been working out on this plan for around 4 weeks now. I noticed on my one workout, to give an example, push-ups. I use to be able to hit these out at 3 sets of 12-15. Pushed myself enough that it was a workout, but i could do complete without failure.

Now i find my reps hitting 12 on first set, 9 on second set and 8 on third set (this is pushing until failure).

How have my muscles gotten 'weaker'? Or am i missing something?

  • Rest wise i get 8 hours a sleep a night. In between workouts, in fairness theres 3 days before i perform the workout again. Perhaps i should combine my 3 days of workouts into 2, so less time in between?

Saying that, in fairness i use to do pushups daily and felt myself building up the ability to perform more reps... so resting too much seems logical. Cheers!

Are you saying that you do pushups every third day e.g., do them on Monday, take Tuesday and Wednesday off, do them on Thursday? Are you doing any other press-type exercise (bench press) on any day?

if you're getting enough rest and recovery time, perhaps you need to eat more complex carbs before a workout. or is it possible you're eating at a deficit or is it hotter where you work out?

hard to say.. maybe your form is getting better and less cheating.

or maybe little elves are coming in and eating up your pushup strength while you sleep?
