Dresses and skirts: thighs sore from rubbing together

Obviously a question for the women:

What do you do to keep your thighs from getting all red and sore when they rub together while wearing a dress or skirt?
It's starting to get quite painful, but it's way too warm to put on anything else.
I just keep putting bodylotion on, but that's only helping so much.

Lanacane I believe makes an anti chafing gel. Talcum powder (baby powder) works as well I find.

I've always used baby powder, but I think I'll try deodorant and see how that goes! Never really thought of using it for anti-chaffing purposes. :)

Monistat makes an anti-chafing gel. It's also a really good makeup primer believe it or not!

I always wear cotton leggings under my dresses/skirts. The cotton makes it breathable so I don't get too hot, and it puts some fabric there so my thighs don't get sore, also they cover my legs in case the wind blows my skirt up, or in case it gets caught in something and pulls up.

I swear by using deodorant myself. Gave it a try one day when it was way to hot to wear leggings, and no rash.

I swear by BodyGlide - it is meant for runners and you can get it on amazon or at sporting goods stores! It looks like a deodorant stick and goes on clear and non-greasy.
  • I second the Monistat chafing gel as both chafing gel and makeup primer. :)

I've tried this. It does work pretty well.

Bodyglide or any athletic anti-chafe, (for a budget cream, many cyclists use diaper cream, nappy cream for saddle sores, abrasions)
  • Fab hints ladies, I've just been out to dinner, in a dress!, but wore shorts underneath to prevent chafing.
I'll definitely try the anti-chafing cream tho, as it's really too warm to wear shorts underneath atm!

Cotton cropped leggings for me. I have them in black, navy, white and several shades of grey. Also seems to stop insect bites higher up the legs when sat outside on a summer evening. I am normally the sacrificial human.

since many years I have worn silkysmoth underpants like these:

They are just wonderful. no more burning. it´s a miracle. I´m sure you can find them in different brands where you shop for underwear in your country. good luck.

I've just bought a pair of Sloggi basic long briefs in nude for this exact reason. Very comfy and not at all hot, even in this heat. I tried deodorant but it wore off after a short while, as did talc.

If only I could just slim down my thunder thighs!

I haven't personally tried it but have seen numerous people swear by Silky Underwear by Lush.

However, the first ingredient is cornstarch so you might get the same effect from using that!

Vaseline works wonders and you can carry a little tin easily in your bag and top it up if necessary! I tried talc but it quickly sweats off in hot weather, and it is harder to reapply if you are out. :)

Believe it or not, dudes also have this problem, and probably far more often 'cause thigh gap.

    Solution?

    Body Glide.

Available at sporting goods stores and on Amazon.

I wear Jockey skimmies slip shorts. The fabric is sturdy but thin and breathable.

Monistat has an awesome silky chafe relief cream that works wonders!
But when it isn't too warm, I wear spanx or bike shorts underneath, so I do not even have to think about it.

ooooo I do this too (or bike shorts)....for the chafing AND because if, god forbid, by skirt blows up with a wind or i tuck it into the shorts...its not such a big deal :D

Johnson & Johnson first aid creme has a paraffin base so actually works well as an anti-chafing creme and is cheaper than Body Glide. I haven't tried deodorant though. Vaseline actually made the chafing worse for me because it would make my thighs stick together. For exercise I wear long shorts but it's harder to find cotton ones that are the right length these days.

I use this too and really like it. Also, use cornstarch rather than body powder, it absorbs more moisture than talc.

I think everyone has basically answered this, but yes:

Bodyglide or some other commercial anti-chafing product
    stick deodorant/antipersperant
    body powders, talc, cornstarch
bike shorts or leggings, including shapewear/underwear with legs

Another vote for Body Glide! It is by far the best thing I have tried for preventing the dreaded "chub rub" as I call it. I also put a touch of it on my feet in vulnerable spots to prevent the blisters that always pop up when I wear certain pairs of shoes.
  • Budrow's butt paste... not sure if I spelled that correctly. You will find it in the diaper aisle. Its great for preventing thigh rub rash! I always carry a small travel size container of powder in my purse just in case as back up.

I just suffered from this on holiday the past fortnight and I am so thankful I bought it on a whim, Compeed Blister Stick saved my actual life on holiday!
Embarrassingly enough it was just from walking around so much in the Orlando heat with a dress on and nothing long enough underneath to stop the inevitable! First day too, so red and raised, looked like I had two raspberry pancakes stuck to my inner thighs!

    Lesson learned, thank you Compeed.
