Not new here, but new start (knee problems?)

Hey everyone! Call me Silla: 20, 5'7", 213 lbs.
I admittedly jumped off of the wagon for the past few months due to a knee injury. I'm in Physical Therapy now, but I was instructed by my doctor to quit the gym for now to give my knee time to heal. The gym was all my motivation to get fit so quitting the gym resulted in me quitting trying to get fit entirely, and gaining back the weight I had lost.
Well, that's ridiculous, isn't it? I'm back on the wagon and decided to focus on eating healthy and LOW impact exercises while my knee heals.
Anyone can add me, but especially people with knee issues!
Also, quick (probably incredibly stupid, so I'm sorry) question: I rarely eat meat. I'm not vegetarian, I just hate the taste of most meats. So I'm obviously lacking in the protein department... besides nuts, peanut butter, etc... would protein shakes be an okay thing to add to my lifestyle to get extra protein when I need it? (If yes, how often?)
Thanks, and I look forward to making new friends!

HI,
I don't have a knee injury but I do have an achillies problem. Had a reconstruction last year and have just gotten back on the weight loss wagon to get back to my pre Achilliess snap weight. I gained a horrible 20kgs while getting back to this stage.
I have just started Tapout XT which is putting to much strain on my achillies yet and I am loving it.
I have a protein shake every morning and its the best thing ever, keeps me going until lunchtime> sometimes if I am not hungry at dinner I will often substitute dinner with one.
What low impact exercises are you doing?0 -

What specific knee injury do you have?
There's no reason you can't go to the gym to get in the pool or ride the recumbent bike. Don't overdo it though. Only spend about 20-30 minutes in the pool or on the bike.
