Hi guys.

Joining MFP in May last year has coincided with me undertaking (or training for) a number of sporting challenges and I was just wondering what challenges other members had completed or were training for?

I'll start off:

Completed:

- 10k run
- 60 mile bike ride from London - Cambridge
- 170 -mile bike ride (2-days) from the west coast to the east coast of the UK

Training for:

- 10km run (aiming for sub 50-mins)
- 400 mile bike ride from London - Paris
- Duathlon (4km/20km/4km - run/bike-run)

Whos's next?

Thanks for the challenge and inspiration.

I'm training to climb Mt. Rainier during summer, 2012.

I used to hate running but you soon get the bug. I hardly ran before May but now run at least three times a week. The 5km time is coming down fairly well as well!

Good luck on the 5k, with that cycling under your belt you certainly have the base fitness level to run the 5k in a great time!

I think I have the leg muscles built up enough and the stamina (possibly) but my problem seems to be my shins. I can't run more than a quarter mile without my shins tensing up and I have to stop.

    Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem. I spoke to some 'runner' friends who advised me to get a video gait analysis done at a specialist running shop. This analysis allows them to see your precise running style in super slow motion. Based on this they can select a pair of shoes that best matches your requirements since some will actually make your pain worse!

Since I had this done I have had no pain whatsoever! It's the best thing I could have done. Give it a go!

I completed my first 10k last year and would like to do another this year, at a faster pace (and without the nasty 3km-long stitch).

I'd also like another challenge and was considering the Goodwood Rollermarathon (though never skated before!!) and learning to swim properly

    Any ideas for me nordens?!

    Sophie :o)

I will have to try that analysis out. Can't hurt. Any worse than it already does anyway!

It's 14410 feet, and one of the more challenging mountains in the lower 48, due to the elevation that must be climbed over the two days. (Almost 9000 feet gained from the start to the summit.)

Thanks for the encouragement. I know that I won't make it at my current weight, so I've got a lot of work to do to get there. But it's been fun working at it this year. I've really maintained my focus.
