Knee advice needed

Hi all,

I've recently been diagnosed with anterior knee(s) and am wanting to strengthen my knees.p to prevent further damage/snapped muscles.

Has anyone ever had anterior knee? If so, what did you do to strengthen the muscles? Can anyone recommend any sports that may help? I'm looking at cycling and swimming (both once a week) at the moment but not sure if these would be detrimental.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

It's best to ask your doctor what to do. Following advice off the web could make it worse. Your doctor may need to refer you to a physiotherapist for treatment.
By the way, there is no diagnosis called "anterior knee". Anterior means the front.
What do you think started the problem?

What type of doctor diagnosed you? I would get a 2nd opinion from a Sports Med doctor or Orthopedist. I'm familiar with Knee Valgus but this is a first.

If by anterior knee you mean your patella are located in front of you, then that's usually a good sign. Carry on wounded soldier.
  • Thanks all for the help. I've decided to go and see a sports physio for their opinion.

There is a diagnosis called anterior knee which is associated with he pain at the front and side of the knee cap. One of its full names is patellofemoral syndrome.
I'm not too sure what stated it it came on a couple of years ago and then seem to go away but now it's back with a vengeance.

Mjudd1990 true that is a good sign but if I carry on without strengthening my muscles first then the muscles holding my knee cap in place will snap :-/

Yeesh, that sucks. I would find a good PT for sure then. They'll know how to help strengthen that for you without risking further injury.

I am plagued by knee problems due to the injuries we pick up with our dirt biking. My advice would be to first consult a good physio so they can check you out and start giving you the correct rehabilitating exercises to get everything tracking in order again. The muscle groups must be balanced.
I have had knee ops on both knees, ranging from simple scrubbing and cleaning, to removing a chipped piece of knee cap, and trimming bad cartilage, and ligament and both times the post op rehabilitation was the most important path to recovery!
I now use knee braces when riding, and have built up my (previously wasted away) leg muscles to enable far better overall knee support which a huge help.
I find I can now do virtually any leg exercises without any issues, except running on the treadmill, I haven't experienced any pain, but just do not take the chance, and so only walk on it.
