Hey Guys I have a question,
Id really LOVE to juice fast. The only thing keeping me from it is my job. I work in a factory and the labor is hard. Im constantly sweating. Do you guys think it would still be okay to juice fast as long as I stay hydrated or do you think its a bad idea?

What is the purpose of a juice fast?0

Will you have immediate access to a toilet several times a day at your job? I ask, because honestly, a juice fast "works" (notice the quotes) because you'll likely get urgent, uncontrollable diarrhea. Yep, not being disgusting, just completely honest.
One loses weight because your body basically shoots out immediately what you drink down. Quantities of juice, stripped of its fiber = horrid social embarrassment, not to mention what it is really is doing to your body (no, it's not cleansing--it's making you sick).0 -
Nobody wants to juice fast. People just want to lose fast. (sighs)0

For healing and to lose weight and others have successfully done it and are very healthy lol. I figured someone on here might have done one. My inspiration is this lady https://www.facebook.com/pages/Juicing-FTW/2083577393042600

No matter how much juice I drank, I would be hangry because there was no protein + fat + fiber in my tummy. I would probably be dizzy and thirsty too from all that sugar spiking.
If you feel the need to "restart" or "cleanse" (which isn't necessary physiologically, but some people like it for psychological reasons), why not just eat whole fruits and veggies for a day? And at least throw in some avocados for some fat.0 -

I'm a picker at Amazon so I walk 10 hours a day. I'm not losing any weight though:(0

What are you trying to heal?0

Healing from what?
And there are others who have not juice fasted and are also very healthy. Juice fasting does not necessarily equal health.
Sorry if we seem harsh. We are really trying to help.0 -

Juice will certainly not help those things. What has your doctor prescribed for those things? I'd first take their advice. Maybe I'm confused about IR (I don't have it, so my apologies for my ignorance). But, wouldn't copious amounts of sugar (from the fruit) be the worst thing to take for IR? I know other MFP'ers here have way more advice about IR dietary needs.0 -
Well id drink mostly veggie juices and she prescribed metformin and levothyroxin but I quit taking them for a year now just because I dont really want to be on so many meds. I can lose the IR if i lose weight0

I just did a 3 day juice fast. It did help jump start me. I did not have bowl issues, but did pee a whole lot. If you want to do one, there are a couple of different brands at Whole Foods. I did the first day with Suja juice. http://www.sujajuice.com/
You could easily do it over a weekend, and then use it to eat better. I am incorporating a green juice into my daily routine now. Hope that helps. I know lots of people who swear by them. It helped get me motivated and off my plateau.0 -
I always think when it comes to juice fasting why don't people just eat the veggies and fruit, you would be full on a lot less calories and without the stomach issues that may come from it.0

Have you discuss your concerns with your doctor?0 -
I dont have a doctor anymore. Thinking about going again.0

Yeah, I recommend that. Don't make things harder for you by discontinuing those meds. None of us want to have to take meds, but those are your lifelines right now. You NEED the metformin and levothyroxin for very good reason.
Get back on them, lose your weight wisely and safely, and keep your doctor in the know, so they can adjust the meds when needed. THAT will be the best healing you can do for yourself.0 -
You have to be really careful with a lot of raw foods when you have thyroid problems. Juicing can be very hard on your thyroid. Lots of greens in particular have goitrogens.0

PLEASE find a doctor and talk to them about your concerns. My mom stopped taking her thyroid medication for about two years back when I was young, and when she finally saw a doctor, he almost bit her head off. Meds aren't fun, but sometimes they're necessary. My mother's been taking them for half of her life, and she's pretty healthy nowadays. Good luck, dear! (and as many others have said, juice fast = no bueno)0 -

Secondly, if you are not losing weight then you are not eating at a calorie deficit Do you log everything you eat? Do you weigh your food? Do you record exercise calories, if you exercise outside of that 10 hours of walking at work?
If you want to lose weight you must eat less calories than you burn. All people lose weight through calorie restriction, but some people do it by cutting out certain trigger foods, and other people just eat what they always have just less. You need to experiment and find the method that works best for you.0 -

Juicing deprives your body of good fiber and other things. It also can spike you blood sugar, if you're juicing with fruits. Whole fruits with fiber, slow down your absorption rate of the juices, thus reducing the spike and rise in your blood sugar. Be careful.0

OP you need to see a doctor and have blood tests done.
Self medicating ( or non medicating) on thyroxine is a very bad idea.
Juice fasts are not a good idea either.
See a doctor, get your thyroid function sorted properly and then eat at an appropriate calorie deficit.0
