Week 2 of a new life

I am making a complete lifestyle change. I am new to working out and this is only my second week on my "plan". I am wanting to get some feedback from others who have started and been successful at having a healthy lifestyle.
Diet changes- I have limited myself to 1200 calories per day on most days(I have went a little over). I have increased my water intake to more than a gallon per day. I have a GNC Lean25 protein shake in the morning. I have started taking daily vitamins. I have been working to eliminate the "bad" food from my diet.
Exercise- I hired a personal trainer to work me out three times a week for an hour each time. The first week was absolute hell on earth. I hurt all over and wasn't sure that I would be able to get out of bed on most days. I increased my water intake and eased the hurt with a little motrin, stretching, and walking.
This week has began with a little less soreness. The workout seemed a little easier yesterday and I felt pretty good afterward. I have been attempting to get a full 8 hours of sleep per night. I have decided on off days I will walk about 2 miles at 3.5 miles per hour.
At 37 year of age, I am 5 foot 6 inches and 180 evenly spread pounds fat. My goal is to be healthy, not to be thin. Am I on a good path? Am I doing this the right way? Does anyone have any advice for a beginner?

Fantastic job so far!
You are doing a lot of changes at once? I started the same thing Jan 1st this year. Trainer 3 times a week and walking the rest days. No garbage food and even the GNC shakes which I enjoy.
I lost 13 pounds in the first 3 weeks with this changes alone. I kept it up for 4 months and then cottage time started up. I am now running 4 times a week at 5 Kim's each run.....but the food has been packing on again. I am up 8 pounds again just from the drinking and eating habits. I know that they say the 80/20 rule is true. 80 percent of weight loss is food and 20 is exercise.....clearly this is the case with me too.
You will start to really notice your body become stronger as you push the boundaries with your trainer. I am 5'9" and am 199 this morning. I also have my weight evenly spread out on my body so sometimes I don't see the weight creeping up.
Try to keep on your plan and a lot for a little free time In the weekend so you don't feel deprived. I think that's what is happening to me.......feeling deprived so I binge.
Keep us posted on your success!0 -
I think you are doing great! You have an awesome plan set up. Running helped me years ago so I started running again in hopes that I can get back on the ball again. I am planning on running 3 to 4 times a week.0

I met with a nutritionist last Wednesday and I was really discouraged after getting on her scale. I have not seen numbers that high since I was pregnant. She has written up an eating plan for me to follow, one week at a time. NO magic pills, NO diet, and NO gimmicks. It is an all out lifestyle change. She and the trainer have forbidden me to step on a scale of any kind. They have both stated that I should not be concerned with that number on the scale. I need to be concerned with making changes that make me feel better.
Of course I cheated and stepped on the scale today. I couldn't help myself! I am down 4 pounds! Yay me!
Thank you for all your kind words and support!0
