I ate junk food for about 3 days.

Hi guys, you probably see a lot of these threads, of people feeling guilty after what they eat, but I haven't really eaten well for about 3 days now.. I ate a candy apple covered in Chocolate on the first day, the second day, I went to buy a whole pack of Chips Ahoy cookies, which I think contain about 24 cookies in there if I'm not mistaken. I ate the whole pack washing it down with 2 cups of 2% milk at around 11:00 PM, and today, I went to the store and grabbed one of those gigantic Doritos bag that are meant for gatherings or party's. I ate the whole bag, and now I realize I could be damaging my body, another stupid thing is that I would tell myself that once I wake up I will exercise hard after eating all that junk food, but the next day. I end up not working out, but instead I eat more junk food. I mainly work on cardio. I jump rope almost daily at least 40 minutes or 30, but I've been getting hard painful sores and blisters on my feet. So I've taken pretty much a week off, and in that week, I ate a lot of junk food. Can anyone help me on how to start getting back on my feet, what to avoid, and go back to eating healthy? Thank you so much!

The only way to avoid doing it again is just... not doing it. That being said, if you are denying yourself some of your favorite foods, including junk food, you will be more likely to binge. Build those foods into your normal days and you won't feel deprived.

But having said all that, I did the exact same thing you did, just last week. About 3--4 days with no logging and just eating whatever I wanted. I can't really explain why it happened, but it has happened a couple times since I've started this weight loss (I started about a year and a half ago). I just go with it, and tell myself it WILL end and I will get back to eating the way I should, all with no guilt. If it makes me gain that one week, so be it. It's one week out of the rest of my life.

And one thing I've noticed is that I feel sick on those days. Last week when it happened I was sure I was going to throw up because of all the Doritos and peanut M&Ms. But c'est la vie, I am back to tracking and staying at my calorie goal. And I just finished some dark chocolate a few minutes ago that I worked into my calories for the day. :-)

eta: your profile pic terrified me when I first opened your post!

I eat some junk food every day. I love it. The way I try dealing with it (and some days I'm more successful than others) is by counting calories. I started doing this in February so whereas before I would have eaten a whole bag of chips I now weigh and actual serving and log it in my food diary and really savor it while I'm eating it. If I really want to eat something horrific (bread pudding or ice cream being favorites) I have a nice healthy salad with lots of veggies and egg and parmesan for my meal and then have my dessert. Again, while counting all the calories I eat. When I want to continue eating the bag of chips or what have you I tell myself that it will be there tomorrow for me to enjoy another serving. I used to use this bizarre logic where I would tell myself "I'm going to eat it tomorrow anyway so might as well finish it today" but then the next day I would buy another bag. Realizing how ridiculous this is and actually telling myself that there will be another chance to enjoy these foods has changed the way I consume them.

How about you stop thinking about certain foods as bad? If you like something and can fit it into your calories, eat it.
  • Thanks for the suggestion, but usually you have to look at certain foods bad. For example, if I was suppose to be eating 1000 calories a day, eating 1000 calories on just Fried Chicken isn't bad? Of course it is! I'd gain more weight instead of losing it.

Don't worry about it. Just get back on track tomorrow. It's ok to live a little and enjoy food now and then. Just as long as it doesn't turn into a permanent habit who cares. Get back on track tomorrow and you'll be fine. You won't turn into a blimp from 3 days of junk food. Maybe if you allow yourself a little junk food everyday within your calorie limits you'll be less likely to binge like that in the future?

I buy all my food for the week. Then i don't need to go into the shops and i wont be tempted by anything.

I also exercise in the mornings, that way i don't want to eat any junk as i feel my mornings effort will be wasted!

No, 1000 calories of one thing won't make you lose weight faster or slower than 1000 calories of anything else. As long as you're getting proper nutrition (hitting your macro goals, specifically), you can eat whatever you like. In fact, if weight loss is your only goal, then you don't even have to worry about that, but I don't recommend it.

Why as an 18 year old male would you be eating 1000 calories a day? If your calorie goal is high enough you should be able to fit in a few treats without feeling guilt or hunger. There is no bad foods, just foods with higher nutritional value for the number of calories. Eating your daily total in just fried chicken will still give you weight loss. It's not a good idea because it is not nutritionally balanced.

It was an example, but thanks for the advice.

I was hoping. The rest of my advice stands. Fit in some fun stuff, you don't have to eat celery and bean sprouts only. Have you read the Sexypants thread? Here it is incase you haven't. It is full of great and helpful information.
