Weight loss with PCOS

Hey all,

I was very recently officially diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. Now I'm not using this as an excuse, but I was wondering if any of you fine folk had had any success with large amounts of weight loss with this? My doctor prescribed the ever-joyful Metformin, as well as folic acid and a low dose birth control pill. I also try to be careful about what I eat, tracking everything, and I also go to the gym 4 times a week, yet I'm not seeing any results.

Is there any tried and tested methods that you all found after being diagnosed that worked for you? Anything that you would recommend?

Thanks for any and all ideas/tips/tricks!! Much appreciated :)

A ketogenic diet is excellent for PCOS.
  • Hi, I also have PCOS and was diagnosed about 20 years ago. I don't take any medication as when I was originally diagnosed there wasn't much information about and to be honest I have just accepted it. I have always been a bit on the big side but have found that most of my weight tends to be on my trunk. I know that a low GI diet is meant to be the best way forward. This is to help you regulate your insulin which then makes it work better and it stops storing everything as fat.

I must admit I tend not to consume too much bread as this seems to bloat me and make me sluggish and I try to use whole grain pasta or use tofu noodles (which are quite nice once you get used to them) when I can. I have found that calorie counting is working for me as my main problem was portion control and I try to walk everyday. It does seem to be a bit of slow journey but as I can now see results (after 3 months) and wear a slightly smaller pair of trousers I feel that maybe this is the way forward.

    Hope this is of help

    Jo xx
