I'm not sure what you are asking. Are you saying that you were eating less than 1200 calories for weight loss and when you realized that was unhealthy you ate more and then after 5 days you regained 2.5 kilograms?

Honestly just don't know what you are asking for here.

I looked at your diary and you only eat 1200 calories on a good day. You're usually way under. There's no way you are gaining fat on 600 calories a day.

    Isn't 61.5 kgs < 64 kgs? I'm missing something here...

Perhaps you can rephrase your concern. It seems to be a bit confusing to more than just myself. It's very difficult to offer any thoughts without knowing what you need help with.

If I'm reading this correctly, and I'm not sure that I am, it sounds like you increased your calories and your weight went up slightly in response? If so, you need to take into account that a good portion of this is going to be water weight. Give your body some time to adjust to any changes that you make to your diet or exercise routine. 5 days is not enough time to determine whether or not something is working.

I was 64 when I started. I have been on diet plan for a month now but I started using this app later. I was eating under 1200 cal. Many people here asked me to eat 1200 minimum. I dint check my weight for 5 days and now its up again. 64 again. I managed to bring it to 61.5 last days.

I'm sitting here hoping that your diary is just spotty and incomplete and its not that you are starving yourself like that.

600 calories a day on a regular basis eating things like Naan bread? There is no way you are getting adequate nutrition out of that.

The alternative is to damage your heart and develop gallstones, and I assure you they are not fun. They're a very common side effect of very low calorie diets. Also, dry, sallow skin and dry hair. So ironically, the very thing you're doing to make yourself look good ends up making you sick and makes you look old and tired.

A better way might be to listen to the people who have had success and have rockin' bods and look great, and try emulating what they did.

When you increase your daily calorie intake it is normal to have a bit of an upward shift on the scale. The important thing is to make sure you are eating enough food (minimum 1200, plus exercise calories) to fuel you body and keep you healthy. The weight that you gain when you increase is just temporary and you will start losing again.

Be nicer to your body, it's the only one you have. Here are some of the problems which can happen if you are not eating enough: hair and nails become brittle, reduced concentration, lethargy, muscle wastage, decreased nutrients to maintain organ function (kidneys, brain, heart, etc.), decreased bone density (this becomes a big problem in older years), plus much more.

Here's some great information, lengthy but worth reading. Take from it what you will:

Increase your water and make those 1200 calories high in protein and vegetables. You will make yourself sick eating 1200 calories of nutritionally void simple carbs.

Increasing water helped me drop weight after a long plateau. My body was holding on to water weight because I was dehydrated. The first time I broke a plateau was because I upped my calories from a meager 1200 to over 1500. Within two days, I had started dropping weight again. After a long period of depriving your body of nutrients and calories, it will try to hang on to anything you put in it. Your metabolism will drop significantly and make it much more difficult to lose. Have you considered looking into calorie cycling diets or even the 5:2 diet? (Eat regularly 5 days and very low calories twice a week). It might not be the best option but it would be much healthier than what you are currently doing.

If you eat less than 1200 calories a day your body goes into starvation mode and likes to store whatever you are eating into fat. The way your going at is sounds very unhealthy.

How can I mobilize my fat stores? If that weight I lost earlier was lets suppose water weight then how can I shake my fat cells?? Because I am not gonna give up and I will try again but I want to make it right and target fat this time!!

I was 64 when I started. I have been on diet plan for a month now but I started using this app later. I was eating under 1200 cal. Many people here asked me to eat 1200 minimum. I dint check my weight for 5 days and now its up again. 64 again. I managed to bring it to 61.5 last days.

Your weight will fluctuate by a good 5 pounds normally due to changes in water retention. This can be caused by changes in sodium intake, your monthly cycle (being a woman), changes in exercise (adding exercise can result in additional water retention in your muscles).

You are freaking out over nothing. You should expect your weight to fluctuate, that doesn't mean you are gaining fat.

That said what concerns me is your approach to dieting. You are eating frightening little and your food choices are also not particularly nutrient dense. I would expect you are very low on things like calcium and iron and many other vitamins. You can cause yourself real harm doing that long term.

:-( :-( I was celebrating 'Eid' so I dint see what i was eating and I havnt ate naan bread since I started my diet.

I'm confused. Your diary shows that you have naan bread pretty much every day including yesterday, the day before that, the day before that and the day before that.

I'm not saying you can't have those foods but if you are only eating 600 calories and part of your calories are from breads then yeah you aren't getting nearly enough nutrition.

If you eat less than 1200 calories a day your body goes into starvation mode and likes to store whatever you are eating into fat. The way your going at is sounds very unhealthy.

No, this is not what happens.

Eat a healthy balanced diet of proteins fats and carbohydrates and limit your intake in such a way as to form a small calorie deficit. Combine that with regular exercise which can be as simple as taking a walk now and again.

If you are a woman in your 20s that weighs 64kg then even if you are completely sedentary you are going to maintain your weight eating at about 1800 calories a day. Eating even 1200 calories is pretty extreme, eating less than that and you are risking yourself harm.

You shouldn't just be paying attention to calories you should be paying attention to nutrition as well. Are you getting enough iron? Enough Calcium? What about vitamins.

Stop treating food like the enemy and your body like something that needs to be punished. Eat more, add a little exercise and settle into this being a long term thing not measured in days and weeks but in months and years.

There are lots of online calculators you can use to estimate how many calories you should be eating, here are just a few.

Let's talk about fat & protein.

More and more I'm leaning towards fat being the new superfood. Seriously, it should get a cape and a portrait in the Hall of Justice. It was demonized in the 90s, but it turns out that fat is really pretty good for you. It helps keep your hormones regulated, your skin, nails, and hair healthy, it helps with mood, and keeps people feeling fuller and more satisfied. It's more calorie dense than protein and fat, but it's also an important part of your diet.

You should be getting at least .35 grams of fat for every pound of body weight. Are you hitting those numbers? If not, then consider adding some fats to your diet. Nuts, cheese, avocado, cooking oils, etc. can really pack a punch.

Now onto protein. The reason so many people stress protein around here is that it helps to repair and retain your lean muscle mass while you're dieting. You see, when you're losing weight your body can take it from fat store and/or from your muscles. You know those dieters who reach their goal weight and aren't very happy with what they see in the mirror afterward? Most of them have lost more muscle man than they wanted to. Protein helps with that. It also helps people feel fuller longer just like fat does.

There are a lot of different places you can set your protein (depending on your fitness routine, goals, etc). Somewhere around .6-.8 grams of protein per pound of body weight is a good starting point. Consider adding more meat, meat substitutes, cheese, beans, legumes, etc. to your diet.

And the rest of your calories get filled up by carbs to give you energy and vitamins and minerals. This includes veggies, bread, naan, pasta, etc. None of those foods are off limits, but making them the bulk of your meals makes it harder to get the fat & protein that you need.

Taking a look at those numbers may help to give you an idea of where/how to boost your intake.

I don't know what happened but I with so much effort and time I was able to reduce my weight from 64 kgs to 61.5 kgs. And just because i din't check it for 5 days and because I was eatin too low that everyone asked me to eat at least 1200 cal, my whole effort is ruined :-( God!! I just wanna cry aloud. WTH! I don't know what to do now...

Results don't always happen overnight. Just don't freak out and you will continue to lose weight.

You had Naan bread for breakfast today...
Bottom line is that unless you are very overweight, usually 1200 calories is what you need just for basic body function. Of course you will lose weight eating less than this - but can you maintain that? can you eat under 1200 calories EVERYDAY? You want to lose the weight slowly, while being healthy - so you can keep doing it once you reach your goal weight
  • Not only are you eating way too little, but you are eating nothing of worth.
Example: Tyson chicken nuggets and bread for breakfast
    Sprite
Tea (tea is 0 calories by itself and does not count as a breakfast item, not even worth counting)

You can scramble up some eggs and chop some kale into it, while toasting Ezekiel bread quicker than those nuggets will bake.

Where are your proteins? Your body will not do anything for you if you are not feeding it properly.

By eating too little you are basically letting your metabolism go to sleep. Why should it work if are not intaking anything for it to burn?
Go grab some healthy snacks for throughout the day (almonds, carrots and hummus, cherries-not Sprite or other highly processed foods).

Everyone already placed everything out for you. I'm really hoping you listen because the way you are eating is going to make you seriously sick one day.

    Here's your help:

    http://www.anad.org/

Even at 1200 calories daily, most women aren't getting enough food, EVEN for weight loss. I suffered from an eating disorder throughout my teens and early twenties. Talking to a professional is the best help you can get for yourself.
  • I was just thinking this!! ^^^^^^
  • Also, in a previous post you made you answered your own question.

"Basically i am a medical student. All i have to do is sit on a desk. I dint put on weight because of overeating but i did it because i was in no physical activity from past couple of years. I dont like eatin more i fear it ll just do more harm. 1200 cal is a amount i was consuming before startin a diet."

    Keep eating, start moving?

I'd echo this. The solution is to continue to eat but to move more, not to starve yourself. As a medical student you should be aware of the physiological consequences of things like iron and calcium deprivation.
