Thoughts on FitBit?

I'm thinking about getting a FitBit. There are a few models (wrist band vs. clip on). I'm looking for some opinions on the product and what model.

Thanks!

I have a FitBit Flex. I chose it because it tracks sleep and because it can get wet and I occasionally swim to mix up my workouts. Overall I like it, but I have found a few flaws... it is often inaccurate when clocking my steps in two situations: when I carry my son with my FitBit arm (which is a lot, he is 1) and when I am pushing the stroller or a cart or whatever. I have learned to live with the "carrying" flaw. To work around the stroller thing I use MapMyRun when we go for a stroller walk and it overrides the FitBit reading in MFP (which really omits the need to even have the FitBit on walks, really)

Also, the charger units are crap. Look at the "community" feeds and EVERYONE complains about the crappy connectors. However, I Pre-ordered by Flex so I got the very first generation. It is possible they have/will resolved that issue in future generations.

If I had it to do again, I probably wouldn't, considering the 500 other types that are on the market now (although nothing is perfect).

I have a clip-on FitBit. At first I loved it, but I don't think it's very accurate tracking calories burned. IMO, it seems to function more like a pedometer...tracks steps taken, calories burned (based on steps, not the type of exercise), etc. I didn't realize how off the calorie count was until I started Insanity last year, and monitored my calories burned with a heart rate monitor and compared it to the FitBit. It's a neat gadget, but there may be something better out there. I just ordered an iFit bracelet that supposedly monitors everything that a FitBit would, plus monitors your sleep patterns. It should be delivered tomorrow, so I'm not sure if it's all it's cracked up to be just yet. While you're researching, you may want to invest in a $25 heart monitor. To date, that has been my best way to accurately track calories burned. Good luck! =)
