Can I be addicted to Milk?

Okay crazy question... This is the one part of this I am going to struggle with the most. I can take or leave most foods but milk... OM Gosh to me this is sweet nectar from heaven I do not know how I am going to cope dropping this from my list. I know most food is okay in moderation but for me... I cannot get enough of this stuff, I will easily drink almost a gallon of whole milk every day or at least every two days... This I am not sure how I am going to cope on, can I be addicted? Is there something in milk that my body craves and if so can I supplement it with something else? I don't know... anyone?????
Never really thought about it but the money savings would be pretty good as well if I can give it up. I love TG Lee and its like $5.29 a gallon right now, if I could stop it would save me over $1000 per year... damn!!!
Peace Out!!

I was drinking so much milk about 3 years ago that I was severely anemic... apparently too much calcium can interfere with iron absorption....... I drank about a gallon a day or every other day. So I had to cut back... a lot.... it was hard but I did it0

I found this. http://www.turtlemountain.com/products/Coconut_Bev_Plain.html It has the nutritional info.
I found it recently because I well wanted something 'milk' like and I dislike soy milks, even though I like soy protein powders. Almond and Oatmeal 'milks' are okay but are better mixed with stuff. I also wanted to cut down on animal products into my body, I'm not a vegan or vegetarian, but I just wanted to go more earth friendly and keep my cholesterol healthy, so chose that. and It is yummay! I was also surprised by this brand's texture? if that's the right word, it's not watery like some milk replacements are, or nothing extremely noticeable and it's a heck of a lot better tasting than skim milk (bleech) . It's not thick like oatmeal/nut milks are either, but I would say more so than soy, plus soy and regular milk always leave that funky film in my mouth and this doesn't.
This is milks 1% nutritional data.http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/dairy-and-egg-products/74/2 It has less fat but more cholesterol and eh I dunno, after reading about the kinds of fat in coconut milk and not really getting a lot of fatty foods into my system I thought that I could try it and see what happens, so far no weight gain from having coconut milk.0 -
Wow, never really connected milk with anemia before, that would prolly explain all my headaches lol.
True about the milk with me too. I've cut down to just with cereal and a glass or two more per day, but i was drinking half a gallon to a gallon per day until about a week ago. Just remember not to completely negate it from your diet and you can ease into it. You can do it!0 -
It's possible to become addicted to anything, though your body may just be craving nutrients that you are not getting elsewhere. My thoughts on this would be to make sure you aren't getting too much of any one nutrient, like mariaphul mentioned. Too much of anything is a bad thing, no matter how good it is for you. Here is an interesting article: http://www.leighpeele.com/addicted-to-dairy0

Also having convos with a friend about foods, in a holistic sense, white foods are feeding of the spirit, the fat is comforting to the body, (you can find fats in other forms-research it ie: nuts but there's more out there.) the smoothness may mean you want the smooth flow of life and crave that, so what else can create smooth flow for you? for me it's swimming, and yoga and taking bath's. Also you might like the full-ness milk provides in the stomach feeling, You might want to try that milk I mentioned but also upping your water intake, I hated water once upon a time now I'm like wow, how did I do without this? I started off by adding lemon juice and ice to mine and putting it in large glasses that I would like and water is filling, it's not at dense as milk is but it still has that filling feeling. Now I drink it plain, and make my trips to the spring a couple of times a week to get it, If you need the bit of salt that milk provides, try maybe having something lightly salty with the water, not overboard.0

I love milk, too! Maybe you aren't getting enough calcium? Do you take a multi-vitamin or a calcium supplement? I'm sorry - I don't think I'm much help - I could easily put away a half-gallon a day, if I didn't physically restrain myself!0

Changing from whole milk to 2% or 1% and eventually skim milk will really help. And you'll still enjoy milk, but it may not seem like the "treat" that it presently does, and perhap you will crave less of it. I love my milk too but have learned to enjoy good, cold water too. Good luck!0

Thanks all for your input and encouragement, yesterday I decided that from now on out I was not going to drink the milk like I use to. I asked my wife to buy skimmed milk and because I don't like this as much I am thinking that I wont drink it like I do the whole milk. So if its not in our house its not going in me...
So far so good0
