Are you tanning?

My cousin saw me last week and said "Damn man, you're hella dark!!!". With all the running outside I've been doing, I'm pretty dark right now and it doesn't take me long to get tan.
However, I do it with natural sunlight. 2 of my female clients tan by bed. One looks like she is, the other looks more naturally tanned.
Funny how in America we want to get darker, and places like Asia, everyone is trying to get lighter. Yeah, I know that some will mention skin cancer and wrinkling, but I cover up with a good sun block and HAVE to use lotion each day (dry skin).

So are you getting your daily dose of vitamin D through the sun each day and adding some color?

By living in Florida, I am sort of an anomaly since I do not tan or have any interest in being anything but pasty.

    To answer your question, No.

Just saying that sunscreen won't protect you from skin cancer! I was diagnosed with stage II melanoma when I was a sophomore in high school and always used sunscreen. I had 4 moles on my back that came back positive for cancer cells after biopsy. Had to have surgery to remove them. Fortunately mine were caught early and the biopsy revealed the cancer had not metastasized. I have ugly scars from surgery but am lucky to have my life. It's been over 5 years so I am in the clear.

Nope. I'm Hispanic, but my skin didn't get the memo:laugh:. Pale, porcelain skin that abhors the sun. I run before dawn or at dusk, to avoid the evil rays of the Sun.

Another skin cancer victim checking in.
I used to be brown as a Crayola.
Being poolside was a summer requisite.
    Chemo is NOT fun.
Treatment is NOT cheap, even with health insurance coverage.
Now, I stay out of the sun & take a vitamin D supplement.

Idk if this is off topic. But I use my free tanning I get with my gym membership about once a week. It really helps with my complexion... is that weird? sure. But I enjoy the ten minute warm nap.

I live in the Melanoma capital of the world. I've already had several pre-cancerous spots removed. I do not allow the sun to touch my skin between March and October. Sunscreen, hat, shade, and staying inside. My next step is to carry the sunscreen habit over into the other months of the year.

I guess I'm the odd duck.

    Brown skin girl here

My job has me outside most of the day & I suppose I should wear sunscreen....but I don't & my skin is gold-brown.
I *did* get a sunburn early in the season, though that's very rare for me. I've only had 3 sunburns in my life.

Having brown skin doesn't help to get vit D from the sun, I'm deficient & supplement :drinker:
I'm brown in the winter time too, just not *this* golden brown.

I work very hard at staying a very white girl. I wear sun block on days I know I'll be outside for awhile during "peak" hours.

That said, I have some color because I'm fairly active outside with running and sports.

I'm white and hate it but I do not really tan. I live in Florida and love being outside, have a swimming pool in the backyard so I get my color, which is nice. Used to live in Chicago and hated how white I would get in the winter.

Color is good, having every vein in your body show not exactly sexy :noway:

I run outdoors (California) AND always wear a hat and sunscreen. I still have some color, though. Maybe I don't reapply often enough...I would NEVER use a tanning bed just like I would never smoke cigarettes. Way to age yourself and up your risk of cancer. :noway:

Even if I do spend the day in the hot Texas sun, I can't tan to save my life. I use Sun Goddess which is awesome in a bottle.

I have no interest in having leather skin, pre-mature aging or skin cancer. I don't know why tanning beds haven't been banned.

Same reason alcohol and cigarettes are legal.

I tan outdoors but I dont "lay out" or anything. I just get sun when im out doing outdoor things. I apply sunscreen, but not with any real zeal. I wear it about the same way I wear makeup lotion. It's part of my routine, and I reapply but I'm not religious about it.

Other than that, I typically buy 15 sessions at the tanning salon and use them throughout the year. It takes me an entire year to use them all, and they come in handy during really down days during the winter. There's something weirdly relaxing, almost meditative about it.

I get my sun by running and doing yardwork most of the time. Although when I go on vacation I'll be at a waterpark on several of the days gettting a lot of sun and should get really dark.

As my friend Lisa says, "I am the whitest white girl". My tan is her natural color (part Asian)

Due to fears of skin cancer (I'm super moley and have had a few biopsies done), I don't purposefully tan, just let it happen organically when I'm exercising outdoors. If I know I'll be out more an a half hour, I try to make sure I slather on the sunscreen but still manage to get at least a light sunburn every summer. The weirdest one this year was on the backs of my knees! I went to a park with some family for the day and had put sunscreen on but changed from capris to shorts and forgot to re-apply. Apparently I was facing away from the sun enough during our walks so I got just enough to burn there. Crazy

I don't try to tan. Would rather be porcelain but thinking I may need a spray job for the broken veins, :( My Mother does the tanning bed thing. It's really aging her now. Though several people at my gym have pretty tans.

I am pale but have some Italian ancestry and I don't visibly burn and can get really brown if I want to. It shocks everyone since I am fairy and rosy skinned.

I pretty much stay out of the sun, though. My husband's a redhead so we are in the practice of exercising/exploring in shady places and protecting our skin from the sun.

For 2 summers in my early 20's I went to tanning beds, mainly to shock everyone because I could get so dark so quickly. Bad idea, since then I've had to have a couple of precancerous spots removed and those both popped up within 6 months of my last session in the tanning bed in '02 so yeah...not gonna do that again ever.
