Getting in shape to row on the water

Apart from wanting to be healthy, I want to row on the water again. I had a problem with tendons in my feet and that stopped me from doing the two kinds of exercise I like. My favourite way to exercise is rowing and bush-walking/hiking. I got quite down about my situation and put on about 40kgs. So, after a couple of years of feeling sorry for myself, I tried dragon boat paddling, and that was the kick-start for me to feel better and start my journey to fitness and to eating well. I have lost about 14 kgs over the last six months, and as my tendons are healing I am walking more and using a concept 2 rowing machine a couple of times each week.
Anyway, I'm enjoying the journey. I would be interested in hearing from other rowers, walkers, dragon boat paddlers, and cyclists.
