I like this thread, cuz I like food:
2% millk
full fat plain yogurt and cottage cheese
kale or spinach (op, for kale, I put it in smoothies or saute or microwave w/leftovers)
cheddar and mozzi, prefer fresh
bananas (for kids & smoothies)
corn tortillas, whole grain bread
baby carrots and hummus
nuts
I prefer to get in-season fruits & veggies at farmers markets and not grocery stores.0 -
Why has almond milk become so popular? I've never found a reason to buy it, esp. since it has hardly any protein and I gave up cereal a long time ago.

I'm in my 9th week post op vertical sleeve gastrectomy. Hello sleevers! I can't speak for the folks with the little egg stomachs (i.e. gastric bypass folks) but here's what I can eat right now:
greek yogurt, low fat
low fat cottage cheese
string cheese, part skim
cherry tomotoes
organic carrot juice
Bettern Eggs
Low fat swiss cheese slices
Sugar free popsicles
tilapia, wild caught
mahi mahi, wild caught
shrimp
chicken (deli meat is nice but has lots of salt)
Treats:
Herseys special dark sugar free mildly sweet chocs (great for constipation but many may not tolerate the Sorbitol)
Werthers original sugar free caramel coffee hard candy (Sorbitol alert!)
If you have Trader Joes or a Whole Foods nearby and can eat this stuff -t these are in shrink wrap packages
steamed lentils
beets! (also available in cans)
****ake mushrooms (saute and add to your Bettrn eggs and a slice of swiss cheese for a fast, great breakfast)
little finger potatoes, (you may be able to tolerate the skin if you cook the heck out of them, likewise with...
yam or sweet potato
If you get tired of throwing out packages of pre-washed greens ....try Trader Joes
micro greens (delish on cottage cheese)
I still use a Costco Premier protein shake for breakfast with a cup of carrot juice and that gets me through an hour workout session in the early morning. Try to keep organic. Your liver is working hard with all that fat cell breakdown ...why add to it with pesticides?0 -

Interesting. The only things that are consistent in my grocery list are eggs and salad greens. Everything else changes, although I usually do keep some cut of chicken, some sort of fish, some sort of rice, some legumes, and a variety of veggies. Oh, and some sort of ice cream or frozen yogurt. That's a must.0

We get fresh meat from the butcher shop rather than the grocery, and that's usually ground chuck and chicken breasts, sometimes a roast or pork0 -
Every week: various types of vegetables and fruits (depending on what kind of dish I want to make that particular week), one type of meat protein source, one type of plant protein source, rice, and one nutrition bar as a treat. I have a very limited grocery budget so I don't really buy snack foods....0

I feel the same way. Babies are meant to drink Breast milk. I don't feel like we should be drinking any animals "Breast" milk. It seems unhealthy. It's a personal preference. Almond milk actually has more calcium in it then cow's milk too.0 -
I am an almond fetishist. Most nuts actually, but I cant have many kinds in the house cause one of my kids is dealthly allergic to peanuts, and peanut contaminated stuff.
So I get almond milk so I can have almond flavored coffee. I also buy blue diamond almonds, and hershey milk chocolate bars with almonds.
We are vegetarians, and we are budget conscious. I buy food in catagories, and stock up during sales.
Protiens-
beans, cottage cheese, yogurt,reduced fat cheese, cows milk for the kids, eggs, protien cereals, soy protien shakes/bars, meat subs, tofu
Fruit- fresh, frozen, dried, or canned in water
Veggies- fresh or frozen, and starchy ones like potatoes as well.
Bread/grains- cereals, granola, whole grain breads/tortillas, rice,pasta
Fats and oils- nuts, margarine spread, mayo,cream cheese, hummus,guacamole
other- spices, sauces, wine...etc

Exchange any recipe that calls for spinach with Kale. Flash boil it first for tenderness.
Variety of spices are a given. I am in to coriander, cumin, curry, cinnamon, pepper every week.
Baking basics including WW flour, baking powder, yeast, powdered milk.
Eggs, egg white, chicken, beef, pork,tuna, low fat cheddar. Milk 1%.
Vegetables and fruit in season. I buy every other day for fresh. Berries are frozen. Onions. Garlic. Lemon and lime juice.
Variety of crackers nuts, dried fruit, beans, and legumes. Bouillon.
Cereals include Cheerios, oatmeal, Red River, and Dragon's Blend (chia, hemp).
Pasta and brown Basmati rice.
Tomato sauce, paste, and stewed tomatoes.
His bread is villagio thick slice and mine is pumpernickel or rye.0
