Here we go again

Good morning.

I've tried to diet before but with no success.. I've tried weight watchers with great success but had to leave the program due to school, marching band and family requirements and the weight came right back.. creeping back onto me. Thankfully I've never gone over 200 lbs and with in the past few years have become a little bit more confidant with my body, but only because I always thought I was around 160-180 lbs.. not the 198 lbs. I actually am.

I try to eat healthy and I try to eat small portions. Honestly, my first day of this program, I ate how I normally do and met my 1500 calorie limit. I can be very sedentary and I did have a very lonely childhood once my best friend moved away - being the only child on your street is never fun. I discovered video games and the computer from an early age and would spend hours in front of each, contributing to my weight problems. But I did discover my passion of art and studied in school for a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in computer art.

So, here I am.. having discovered another diet program.. but one that is very similar to weight watchers, which I know worked for me, and -best part!- Free. I don't have much to spend on special foods, weekly meetings, or even on a gym membership (although I did a free aerobics class in college and LOVED IT). Here's hoping this program, the ability to count and see what I eat.. and also my reawakened love of Dance Dance Revolution, will help me reach my goal of 150 lbs.

I've never wanted to be one of those folks who eats egg whites, and salmon, and steamed green beans. I like food, I enjoy it, I enjoy going out for a milkshake with my boyfriend. I hate running, I hate weight lifting - I'd rather dance. Don't let me near Lady Gaga, or else the limbs will start flying! For some people, those types of diets and lifestyles work for them, and that is so awesome that you enjoy it and love it. But I've never wanted to be one of those people. If I could keep my current weight and health by just living how I do, I'd be fine. But.. I dunno.. maybe after losing my Dad to cancer, and my Mom fighting breast cancer.. I want to make a change and give myself a chance. Plus.. I dream about marrying my boyfriend, even if he isn't yet.. and I'd like to look in a wedding dress.

I wish you the best of luck, and to myself - Good luck. I can do it.

You can do this! You have a great plan in place.

Failure to plan is planning to fail, especially when it comes to weight loss. There is an immense amount of tools on this site (free!) and thousands for support.

I think you've found the right place :flowerforyou:
  • You can do it! This site is great and I share some of your similar things, I love dancing, hate running, weight lifting etc. I also ate like I normally do and was well within my calorie limit. If you have a wii I would recommend the Zumba dance, or Just Dance 1 or 2. They are great for someone who loves to dance! I have started doing Just Dance 2 for 30 min 3 days a week. It's not running a marathon, but it's a start that gets my heart rate going. I haven't changed what I eat, but I do watch how much of it I eat. I used to be bad about snacking, and have now made the only snacking options available to me healthy ones. This doesn't mean I don't go get a milkshake or dessert when I want it, but it makes me more conscious about what I snack on when I'm sitting at work. Keep the positive attitude, and you will succeed! I wish you luck and success.
  • Thank you, sweetbum. I just hope that if I do reach my goal, I'll have also learned how to watch what I eat without a plan. Of course, I think it'll get easier once I move out. Hard to diet when the other person in the house isn't on the same wave lenght, and of course, having just gone through Chemo I want my Mom to eat whatever she wants, and not lose any more weight. Thank you for the support!

Astronima - I DO have a wii. I think I have to start saving. I want the Xbox Kinect for the dancing games it offers but I've been sooo anti-Xbox! The boyfriend wants one though, and maybe when we move in together, he'll have one and I can sweet talk him into a Kinect for those games! Right now I'm planning on buying a new DDR pad for now - mine is old and some buttons like to fail. Infact, I think I may go play for 15 minutes or so before running my daily errands. Thanks for mentioning those wii games! I'll look into them and start saving.
