Where would you report a bad website?

Someone told me about a website recently that has the most disturbing stuff on it. It has these horrible videos of murder, abortions, beastiality, beheadings, horrible accidents etc. All the most disturbing stuff you would never want to see. Is it legal to have things like this on the internet? I know there are some sick people out there but are they not people who are supposed to make sure things like this are not posted or is it one of those freedom of speech things etc where the public just are told not to look at it?

  • if its the site i'm thinking of its been reported before and it cant be shut down. sorry. its gross but sometimes there's nothing you can do about any of that stuff. :/
  • I totally understand where you are coming from, and I am sooo happy that I have no idea what website you're talking about. I can imagine, from what you said, that it is pretty horrific. :( Unfortunately, there is not really a way to get it shut down. The internet exists just outside the realm of most US laws given that it is a worldwide system. However, as we saw with Wikileaks, if you get most of the world's main superpowers on board, you can get results. ;) Wikileaks is still running, but only as an IPV4 address because no one will register it. So, to get there you have to know that address (http://213.251.145.96/). As you can see, it's a bit confusing. It may not completely limit their traffic, but it certain doesn't get them as much as they use to get when they were wikileaks.com.

If you look up the domain name on a site like Network Solutions ( http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp ), you can find out where it's hosted. It should be under Domain Servers. You can send the host an email to complain about it. It might be against their terms of service.

Unfortunately, a lot of sites like that are hosted on servers that don't give a darn about the content, and it's not illegal.

Thanks guys, im not really anyone special to have my voice heard by anyone specifically important. It is such a horrible website and I dont know how it is up and running i have never seen anything so disgusting in my life. I will contact the website owner and see what they have to say. Im sure they will just tell me that they are allowed etc. Usually im the kind of person that is very "each to their own" kind of thing but this website was so bad, I dont know how it is still out there and up and running
