The End of the Beginning

The 10th May 2013 was the day I decided to get fit. I didn't really define what that might actually mean but I did say to myself if I could run up and over The Garth hill and Craig yr Allt by the time I was 50 then maybe I could consider myself "fit". (The Garth was the inspiration for the film "The Englishman who went up a Hill and came down a Mountain").

Well, this morning, 12.5 miles, 550 metres of climbing and 1 hour 52 minutes of running later I've crossed that particular goal of my list. Tomorrow I will be 50. I know I could have done it anytime in the past few months but there was something about it that was important to me that I wanted to save it for my birthday treat.

So that marks the end of the beginning; a journey that has, so far, that has encompassed 50lbs of weight lost, over 2500 miles of running and cycling, 6" off my waistline and, unfortunately, the death of my wife.

  • I'm sure that climb was meaning for you in many ways. So sorry about your wife's death, I'm sure she would be as proud of your accomplishment as you are and as we are of you! :flowerforyou:
