What body fat percentage should I aim for?

I'm 5'9, 152lbs my body fat is 25%.

I'm like one of those skinnyfat people. Everyone who sees me says I'm so skinny, but with my shirt off I look like I'm like overweight. Because I have a very small frame and a big belly, like my wrists are 6 inches for example.

I don't know where to start, if I should be doing cardio or weight lifting. And I'm also curious to know what a good body fat goal would be and what kind of exercises reduce body fat, and diet too.

I'm a total noob, I worked out last summer and saw results and that was amazing, but I never stuck with it due to trouble areas in other parts of my life (everyone has their excuses I guess) but now I'm focused and wanting to do this, I just don't know where to start I just got my body fat percentage a few minutes ago and now I want to know what I do with it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Dan I had a major skinny fat problem as well. Everyone said I looked skinny but I had a fair amount of weight to lose and I didnt look great with my shirt off. To get rid of that it just takes simple diet and exercise like a normal weight loss plan. It took me about 3 months to lose the weight and after 9 months im pretty close to a six pack even! For body fat percentage the goal is totally your choice. About 10% will have you looking skinny and around 8% is where you start to get a six pack. If you would like any help or guidance I would love to help more!
  • Awesome! I couldn't find a good body fat percentage anywhere on the internet so thanks for your help on that. Also, good to know I don't have to do anything extraordinarily different from other people. I just didn't know where to start, this should help me get on track though, cheers!

I would aim for 15% for starters. I just barely got under 15% and its possible under the correct lighting to see some abs. I started at well over 20%.

I would make the major compound lifts the focal point of your workouts...like overhead press, squats, deadlifts, bench press, lat pulldowns, and rows. I've got it split into 3 days, push pull legs. That way i can hit my back/chest/legs twice per week.

    Figured out your macros yet?
  • Thanks for chiming in. No I haven't figured out my macros yet, I will do this morning for sure. Thanks a lot for your advice all of this should help me a lot!
