Fair season

We're going to the fair tomorrow. I've been doing really well here on MFP for two weeks and I don't want to blow it at the fair. I know we'll be eating there. Cotton candy is low in calories but no nutrition and too much sugar. Has anyone already been to a fair and what did you do?

minnesota state fair is on right now too. we have corn on the cob and frozen grapes, some times we can find fajita stands too...much better than the fried foods on a stick!!0

Eat before you go, and definitely bring some snacks in baggies, cuz when that cotton candy or funnel cake urge hits, your gonna wanna eat something, I would recommend grapes or rasins or apple slices. They are sweet without being bad. The sugar in them is good sugar and it will at least give you something to chew on while you walk. Generally, I bring either white grapes, or yogurt covered rasins. Both hit the spot without being absolutely horrible for you.0

I get grilled chicken and fat free pineapple ice cream. This year they had salad on a sick.:noway: But I always eat before we go. My hubby always gets a BIG turkey leg!0

I went yesterday and LOVED it! I was so worried about the food but, after a summer with MFP, I was not even tempted by the icky food. I had a huge peach, a dill pickle, a warm pretzel, and (my one big treat) part of a salted nut roll (that I shared with my husband). Like Banks said, I was careful to eat (yogurt and almonds) before hand and that helped, too.
To be perfectly honest, all the greasy, fried, high cal stuff just grossed me out yesterday. It also helped (not to be mean; just trying to be honest) to see the really, really obese people (and there were loads) who were eating their way through the fair. I am very sensitive to the fact that everyone has their own weight issues and I would never criticize or anything but watching people stuff their faces with "fair food" was such a reminder of how I USED to do that but now I just don't need to . . .
The kids ate the junk quotient ~ fried twinkies, french fries, cheese curds. I was so glad not to be tempted! Yippeeeeeeee!!!!0 -

Thank you all for some great ideas. I'll definitely stay away from the fried greasy stuff. Fajitas sound good as does corn on the cob. We're in rural Vermont so this isn't going to be as big as a state fair so maybe not as many choices. But I'll be on the lookout for the lower cal healthier foods!0
