gaining

Hi, everyone! I'm trying to lose weight again, this time in a healthy way. I need help!
I've been eating at a deficit (1200-1400) and going to the gym every day then swimming laps 4-5 days a week.
Today I got on the scale and I have gained another 3lbs!
Any suggestions?

I'm exactly the same hun. I am always under my calories, exercise a lot and still put weight on. Just fed up as trying very hard. I have measured myself and have lost inches... So maybe my fat is turning to muscle! Keep trying and keep doing what your doing :-)

If you're really eating at a deficit, the gain is likely water and just part of the fluctuation involved in losing weight. If you're really eating at a deficit.
  • In all likelihood, you are probably gaining muscle mass while losing the fat- this is especially common for people who are doing steady state cardio in the 30 minute to 1 hour range who have not been exercising continuously for a year. It is also probably mostly water. Taking measurements is a good way to continue to see results in order to keep your motivation up. Good luck!

If you've been dieting off and on for a long time, you may have a repressed metabolism. Have you been doing calorie deficits for a long time? How are you exercising (all cardio or weight training)? What type of foods are you eating? Your weight can fluctuate a few pounds up and down everyday depending on how you eat.

    Thank you for the replies!
Yes, i have been eating at a deficit, i don't even eat my exercise calories.
Does water weight come off eventually?
I did take my measurements and you're all right! 2 inches from thighs and 1.2 from my arms!
    Nothing from my midsection.
Thank you, i was getting so frustrated

I Have had disordered eating for a lifetime.
Currently I eat pretty much anything but not much meat. I don't eat out a lot, but if I do I try to find a bit of fruit a broth soup or salad. dinner out would be grilled chicken and veggies a bit of potato.
I start with cardio: elliptical, rowing then bicycle. Then some leg press chest press ab work. Then I swim laps. Its usually 3 hours.

Do you use a food scale? Can you open your food diary? It could be water retention since you swim a lot. It could also be based on the amount of sodium and carbs you eat too.

BTW, what is your height, weight, and age?
