What should my goal weight be?

Hi everyone! I'm 5'10" and currently at 165.8. My current goal weight is 130\132 pounds. I recently gained a lot of weight due to medicine\illness, and I got up to 180 before starting to diet. Is 130 too low for a female that is 5 foot 10 inches tall? I think I was around 150 before my weight gain. Thanks so much!!

I think somewhere around 140 pounds should be good, but I also think it depends on what you like.0

130 is a little on the low side for a 5'10. I'm 5'5, and I wouldn't even want to go below 128/130.0

The "ideal weight" (according to doctors/nurses) for your height is 150 lbs. 130 lbs would teetering on the line between normal weight and underweight. I think that's just too small for your height. I'd say 140-150 is a good goal, and then re-evaluate once you get there to see if you want to keep losing or not, but there's no reason for you to only weigh 130 lbs - that's pretty much what I weigh and I'm 5 inches shorter. I'm not saying I've got some great body, but 130 lbs for you would be like 113 lbs for me - and that would look pretty scary.0

Depends on what you want your body to look like. 120 could look fine if you like thin, but so could 150 if you like fit.0

You need to consider your frame as well. 140 on a large frame is too thin while on a small frame, it would be just fine.0

I would suggest working toward 140-150 and then switch to more of a toning routine and eating closer to maintenance. You may find that the way you look in the mirror when you're closer to goal is more important than the actual number on the scale.
(Full disclosure: I'm 5'3" and my goal is 140. I have a larger frame and when I was fit in high school I weighed 135, so I figure my major goal will be 5 pounds more than high school and then if I feel like I need to lose a bit more I will)0 -
I plugged your numbers into a BMI calculator and your "goal weight" came up just barely out of the "underweight" category so tread lightly. I think though that you will feel great at 140! Also, since you aren't overweight (by BMI standards) maybe try lifting weight to change your body composition. You'd be surprised how a little bit of muscle makes a world of different in appearance. Focus on all muscle groups though, only doing crunches will only exacerbate any kind of "pooch" you may have. Working muscles in your back will actually help the appearance of a flat stomach (assuming that's what you are going for) since strong back muscles help you stand upright.
I'm 5'6" and about 130 pounds (26" waist; 37" hips for reference). I can also deadlift more than my bodyweight. Set a mid-term goal of say 150 then reevaluate once you get there. I used to have 120 stuck in my head for the longest time but I like myself at 130.
Good luck!0 -
Thanks everyone! I've decided to just keep trying to lose weight and stop when I feel comfortable, which may or may not be as low as 130. Thanks again!0

Why ask this?? Your goal weight should be where you are most comfortable and feel that you look your best. The scale weight is just a number. You may get to your goal weight (the number you set for yourself) and realize you are too thin or maybe even still holding too much fat. It can vary and depends.
ETA: Just read what you said above me lol. Great idea. Just be get to maintenance when you are most happy with yourself!0
