Dealing with Hypoglycemia

I was wondering who out there is trying to lose weight and is dealing with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). I deal with what is referred to as reactive hypoglycemia, meaning I need to eat about every 3 hours and I have to watch sugar & carb (refined) intake or my blood sugar drops and I end up feeling awful for the rest of the day. It seems like once it drops, I battle it the entire day and have to really work to get it back where it needs to be.

I guess I'm looking for others in my same position that might have words of wisdom or might want to become buddies for support.

  • I also have hypoglycemia. You just have to try and time your meals and snacks out just right so there isn't too much time in between intake. That's about all I can give you. Haha. Good luck!

I'm hypoglycemic too - and I also just try and to eat 5-6 times a day so I don't have too long of a stretch in between. I have 3 meals around 350-400 calories and then two snacks between 100-250 calories. I also do T25 five days a week and that's been helping me see results on the scale.

Generally I try and stick with protein, good fats and fruits/veg for my carbs. I try and stay away from anything that's a simple carb that will spike my blood sugar and end up just making me hungrier.

It's ironic that you posted this because its happened to me today. I was working and my first break came late. I went just over 3 hours without eating something. I was feeling dizzy and getting a headache. I knew that if I didn't eat something soon I was gonna pass out. This has happened before. Once I ate I felt better but sometimes the headache tends to linger.
I am familiar with hypoglycemia but I was never diagnosed with it by a doctor. I have low blood pressure and low iron.
Just make sure you are eating every few hours. it just needs to be small snacks so you can stay on your diet and not get that weak tired feeling. Hope this helps.
  • Thanks for the replies! I felt absolutely awful yesterday. It seems like once it drops I'm battling all day to get it back up. Today I have a lingering headache and dizziness. I know that yesterday I had too much of the refined carbs and I'm sure that's what triggered it. Man, I would love to not feel sick so often.
