Boredom and Eating

I find that I eat a lot more when I am sitting at my desk bored than if I am out and about. Aside from being out and about more (which I've been working on) what are some ways that you can resist the temptation to keep eating as I sit at my desk? Or are their some snacks you can recommend that are low cal, low carb but still satisfy my need to keep my mouth busy which I work?

I assume you are talking about your desk at work.
One obvious method is to not have any snacks at your desk at work. If you have access to them, you will eat them (I do, anyway). Bring two planned snacks to get you through the day.
Have you tried chewing gum? I can't chew gum, but it can help with cravings.
You could also try brushing your teeth after meals. There's something about a freshly brushed and flossed set of teeth that makes me not want to eat for a while.
There's also the tried and true of keeping a full glass of water at your desk and drinking it whenever you get the cravings.0 -
I sit at my desk from 9-6 every day. For the past 10 years I would eat a sweet treat and drink a diet coke at exactly 3 PM every day and in the morning on occasion. This was in addition to my high calorie lunch.
I weaned myself off diet soda at work but still have one for lunch somewhat often. At first to break my snack habits, I bought some Planter's pistachios and some protein bars. I reduced those over time and now I don't eat any snacks at my desk.
It is difficult because my office has donuts/Danishes and other treats fairly often. The first few days I went cold turkey with no diet soda and no snacks and I had a terrible headache from withdraw.0 -
Veggies....I brought cucumber slices & red pepper strips today. Carrot chips and snap peas are tasty too.
With TV it helps to keep my hands busy. A hobby or a game on a tablet.........no snacks there, just a big glass of ice water. I have to break the snacking routine sometime or I'm never going to maintain a weight loss.0 -
Unshelled sunflower seeds. (1) Step one: Put one whole seed in your mouth. Crack it and extract then eat the nut just using your mouth. (2) Step two: Put TWO whole seeds in your mouth, inside one of your cheeks. Isolate just one seed. Crack and eat that one using only your mouth. Store the empty shell in the other cheek. Find and crack the other shell and eat the seed. (3) Step three: work up to being able to do 6 seeds at a time. ENDLESS and MINDLESS background entertainment. 50 calories an hour of food, probably, I portion out a certain number of seeds depending on how long I'll be sitting.
Warning: gross, soggy shells are a byproduct0 -
I do the exact same thing with almonds! On the drive home from the airport (1 hour 15 minutes), I could make 3-4 almonds last the entire drive! Peeling off skin, separating with teeth only, biting in half, then each half in half again...takes a LOT of time:)0
