Back muscles sore from running?

Recently, I have noticed that my back muscles become sore after I run. I read that it was due to having a weak core.
I was wondering what kinds of exercises I could do to strengthen my back and core muscles.
I have started doing crunches/sit ups and planks as well as doing some stretches. Also, could there be anything else that could be causing the sore muscles?

I always thought bicycle crunches and Russian twisters offered the most bang for the buck when it came to running. However, your soreness might be a symptom of lack of flexibility. Do you stretch consistently?0

core exercises are good, but if its your upper back, you could be tensing your shoulders and arms too much as you run. Make an effort to keep them loose at your sides. Also, keep your arms going forward, instead of twisting them across your body. The forward motion makes it easier to breathe, and prevents you for torquing your back0

Yes it's my upper back. That makes a lot of sense, so I'll keep it in mind!0 -

I'll try those! & I don't really stretch much. I should probably do that though.0 -

This... pay particular attention to your shoulders on your next run. You will quickly find out if this is the source of your pain!0
