“Women Issues” from Working-out?

Hi Everyone!
I am doing a great job on my weight loss so far. I enjoy working out and I am on a good, clean eating schedule. I still have a long way to go, but I feel good about where I am at and how it’s going too far.... All until now.
Just to give you a quick background, my goal for working-out is about an hour a day. On the weekends I do more because I enjoy hiking outside. During the week, I alternate between my Power90 DvD’s and do my cool-down by walking/jogging on the treadmill for about 45 minutes. On the weekends, I do all the above in addition to hiking 3.5 miles.
So I have run into an odd issue… On the weekends when I do more, I notice by Monday my “monthly”, which isn’t due, comes to visit…. Then it goes away throughout the week and comes back Monday again. I was told from my Dr. this was from working-out too heavily.
Ladies, has this happened to you before? How do I know if too much is too much? I sit all day at my job and I am trying to make-up for that by getting good work-outs in, but I don’t want to create female issues, either. I felt good doing these-workouts and thought I was doing a good deed for myself. I am very disappointed and feel like I am taking steps back now. I am going to cut out my hiking and see if that helps, but I was curious if anyone here has had the same issues, and if in fact I am overdoing my workouts.
Thanks for the input!

spotting happens for some women but it's really more like a conversation with your doctor honestly. They will be able to help you more than random strangers.0

I've exercised for up to 4 hours (hiking, weight training, etc) and have never had that issue. However, when I first started birth control, my periods were irregular for the first 2 months, but I don't know if that's the case with you. Best bet is to check it out with a doctor .0

Hmm... I've never heard of that sort of issue before. If I were you, I'd probably at least put a call in to my doctor or maybe even make an appointment. I don't think hiking should cause you to bleed. Could there be something else that's causing it? (New birth control.. etc?)0

I did actually talk to the Dr. and that's where I got the info from - I was just curious how many here have had the same issue and what is considered "too much".0

too much bleeding or too much work?
most people never come close to doing too much work.0 -

This was my thought too, but you should try to cut something out or add a rest day and see how you react. I can't imagine that a workout video, some walking/hiking would cause that much stress on the body.0 -
This only happened to me once, and it scared me because I have always had menstrual periods that are like clockwork. I went hiking with my husband on a Saturday for about 5 1/2 hours in a state park, which included decking with over 800 steps, twice, and then some very challenging craggy hills with steep inclines. It was the middle of my cycle and I spotted pretty heavily for the rest of that day and a tiny bit on Sunday. It was gone by Monday.
You sound kind of like me. I am a tiger with my hiking, and it bummed me out that I might be overdoing it. I guess the best thing is to not fret too much and just take it easy when in doubt. I know that toward the last 400-500 steps I was really feeling pushed to my limit...so in the future I would slow down a bit.0 -
I would probably keep the hiking but cut out the other stuff on the weekends. It's good to mix things up anyway.
Just to clarify... I'm assuming Power 90 is a 90 minute workout PLUS you're walking/running for another 45 minutes? Is that right or did I misunderstand?0 -
I actually have the opposite problem, I end up with pms symptoms by the end of the week and expect my monthly shortly after but after a busy weekend of extra activity on top of everything resulting sometimes in a pretty big calorie gap I end up not having it. My doctor mentioned it could be a mix of extra activity/stress on the body as well as not eating enough to have the body trigger the hormones properly.0

I was wondering about this too actually, glad I saw this topic!
I have a similar, but slightly different issue - I have one of those contraceptive implant doohickys in my arm and that has reduced bleeding to a couple of times a year if that (perfectly normal and soooooo much cheaper!). If I do some intense workouts that I haven't done before (the sort that make you ache for days after) that's when I start bleeding.
When I say intense it's stuff like doing an LBT class at the gym for the first time or doing a new HIIT plan and really going for it, generally stuff that is high intensity for about 30-45 minutes.
If you are experiencing odd patterns like you say I would definitely cut things down, just because you have a desk job doesn't mean you have to go so hard on exercise!0 -

even doing a full days worth of work- 2 hours of power lifting and 3 hours of professional dance training- (I do that EVERY monday)... or with long days of dance workshops- I don't get random bleeding. You're body is capable of REALLY hard work once you get it to that point.
Which makes me thinks- a doctor needs to be seen.0 -
I started having spotting a few years ago. At first it happened only after triathlons. Then after some "intense workouts." When it began happening more regularly I went to the doctor. He did all kinds of tests but couldn't find anything; basically shrugged his shoulders and told me not to worry about it. But it continued and I was worried about it. Went to another doctor and turned out I had two rather large uterine polyps. I had them removed, and no more spotting. However, they did come back and I had to have the procedure done again.
I would push your doctor for a better answer.0 -

Thats me exactly. Dohicky in arm normally nothing, do new excersize ( or meet new males) and wham.
Doesn't bother me too much though, so much more convinient that the old way.0
