The Dark Side of Losing Weight

I've lost 20 pounds, so far. 20 more to go. I feel great but there is a bad side to losing weight. When I go to the stores, the clothes fit me!! Since the beginning of July, I've been hitting the racks every weekend. Luckily, there have been sales, but it's getting out of hand. My closet is filling up fast. Lord help me when it's time to do winter clothes shopping.

I have lost about the same amount as you have and I know exactly how you feel. I had to tell myself NO MORE until winter I guess we could have worse problems!!!0

Congrats on the 20 lbs. Don't forget you're still trying to lose 20 more - slow down the shopping so you can do more as that last 20 come off.0
-
No worries......that's great!! Congratulations!! Just don't invest too much, because you'll need more clothes after another 10-20 pounds. Keep an eye on the $$ budget, like you have been with that calorie budget. Discount stores........thrift stores? Excellent ways to meet the need for clothes that fit your changing body!!0

Nice problem to have! Congratulations!0

LOL first world problems eh??
My problem is that I am now in the smallest size available in our plus size store - add to that I HATE clothes shopping and don't want to start looking for another store that will sell me everything from bras to coats - aside from department stores.0 -
Well done for losing 20lbs, i have lost 20lbs too but sadly I haven't needed to buy new clothes, although my bank account is rejoicing! I will get there. If you have aren't going to egg a chance to wear these or when you lose the rest of your weight sell them on eBay and reclaim money back0

I've discovered that if you're open minded, a thrift shop is often an excellent place to find cute stuff, super cheap. Having gone through a lot of sizes, it's so much fun to pick out a new wardrobe for around $50 some weeks.
I don't know if they're all nice..I doubt it, but where I live, pretty much all of them are decent. I just make super sure to wash everything really well before wearing, and to inspect everything before buying. When I'm out of a size, I re-donate it0 -

Haha sounds like my wife! Congrats on the weight loss!0 -
I've noticed my jeans are starting to get big on me. But luckily, I have a closet full of dresses that will fit no matter how much weight I lose.
Dresses, skirts and eBay are all nice options for when you're in transition mode.0 -
I have lost 60 pounds so I have been buying good second hand clothes that only have been costing between $5 and $10 so it's not so expensive to replace when I lose more weight.0

I know this problem. Losing 50 lbs I need all new clothes and I don't have the budget for them. I have tried to be good (for the most part) and found a seemstress that is going to alter some of my old stuff...0

Heheheh, well then welcome to the Dark Side! Enjoy your success and enjoy your new wardrobe! :-)0

I can't wait for that!!!0

Thrift stores!!! :drinker:0

Good point! I need to talk myself down. Thrift stores will be the solution. First world problems is right.0

THRIFT STORES are your new best friend honey!0

I know what you mean. I recently bought three new pairs of pants to "celebrate" my new waistline and while they're in no danger of falling down at inappropriate times (yet!), I probably could stand to use a belt to cinch them up a bit. Which is funny because even though I know better, every time I look at a pair in my size, I still think to myself "I won't be able to fit into these!"
I also agree that places like Goodwill or thrift shops are the way to go, especially if you keep outshrinking your clothes.0 -
Congrats to your loss0
-
I've bought all my new summer clothes from charity shops - mega cheap, good labels and supporting good causes - win win!0
-
The only brand new clothes I have bought was some workout clothes for the gym. I realized I really needed some new summer clothes when I put a pair of shorts on from last year and they fell to my ankles . I bought a couple summer outfits at Goodwill to tide me over. Next I will have to buy some jeans for winter. It is a nice problem to have but I am refusing to buy new clothes until I reach my goal weight. Then I am going on a shopping spree. 50 pounds down and 25 more to go0
-
haha. so funny. when i go shopping i just look..never buy… thinking.." I will buty something when I lose more weight"…
so I can see how great it would be to actually look good in those clothes.. I'd buy too! Have fun.0 -
Although I've never been a Wal-Mart clothing shopper (their styles remind me of my grandma..lol), I found their clearance racks to be a God-send over the last few months and I was able to buy some decent basic shorts this last week for $4 each--that's cheaper than the Goodwill!0

A girlfriend of mine lost a bunch of weight in a short period of time and was a stay-at-home mom without extra cash. She brilliantly polled our facebook friends asking for any hand-me-downs, anything that people wanted to clear out of their closet. She asked for clothes in a multitude of sizes as her shape was constantly changing. It saved her a ton and she had more than enough gorgeous donations to get her through.0

What a terrible situation!! lol... I actually had to set a budget because when I reach goal I plan to have a small shopping spree, and after I keep it off for six months I plan to have another mini-shopping spree...and again when I keep it off for a year, so I have to remember this!! Its hard though when I can FINALLY be excited about shopping for clothes, something I dread up until I started getting healthier! I'm right now in the place where not all XLs fit me, but most 1Xs are too large, and its a great feeling to walk into a NOT plus size store and find cute things! Although I admit, I have purchased a few items that were a bit too snug that I hang on my door as "motivation" to keep going so I CAN wear them proudly and confidently! Congrats to you and keep up the great work!0

I've lost 30 lbs. and really needed to find some smaller shorts/jeans. Luckily it's summer clearance time, so I have found some great deals! I plan to lose 25 more, so I won't buy too much, but my pants sliding off me was getting very annoying! I also have clothes that I got too big to wear, the pants/shorts are now a little outdated but I will wear some of them. I just moved, so I donated a lot of pants that were way too big and I know I will never wear again. I can still wear most of my tops, but I can wear a medium now instead of a large! Pants from almost needing an 18 to a 12!! That is tiny for me, but I'm ultimately hoping to fit into a 10, maybe even an 8!! I'm loving this problem!!!0

im in the same boat right now. i havent lost a lot of weight yet, however the inches are melting away.
ill my dress pants need to be taken in. im swimming in my shirts.
i need new belts.
my goal is to lose another 10 pounds before i go shopping. i have no intention of buying anything more than i need.
funny thing, i was at the beach and i lost 2 different pairs of shorts thanks to waves. that tells me that i need better fitting shorts.0 -
You've got to stop! When you lose the next 20 lbs, all of those clothes are going to have to go, and you'll have to get all new ones. Don't spend money yet!0
-
SO with you.
I am a teacher and lost 20 pounds at the end of the last school year. I vowed to not buy new clothes until absolutely necessary. By June I had 3 pairs of pants that I could wear without looking like a clown. Now they are truly ridiculous So, I shopped last week. A lot. Thank goodness for clearance.
And then the rewards from those stores started rolling in (I mean, I EARNED them, I HAD to spend them!) and I had to make a return (and of course get 2 new outfits), oh and try the outlet mall... And now, I am really not buying any new clothes for a while!
Hahaha! There should be a clothing/shopping counter on this site in addition to the calorie counter!0 -
Clothes? I thought you were going to say something like, being hit on by guys half your age. Oh...wait...that's me. Never mind.0
-
Sounds like you are going to have a whole lot of clothes to donate when that second 20 comes off!! Since my journey is 64 pounds from being over, I replace when I've gone down 2 sizes. In between times I sell or donate anything that's gotten way too big for me. Love shoping clearance and resale shops at this point. Good luck getting this under control! It's really hard as the weight comes off and you look better in clothes. Makes me want to shop for sure! :ohwell:0
