Does anyone have any interesting ideas of how to make brown rice taste better?

I always use the Uncle Ben's brown rice because all the other brands I've tried are sticky. You can always use any of the Mrs. Dash seasonings for some flavor, or maybe some lemon juice or something similar. I guess I'm not a good one to ask. We always just use spray butter and s&p or Mrs. Dash. lol I'd like to hear someone else's ideas, too.

I have added sugar free applesauce to it, pineapple tidbits, and once added strawberry yogurt to make it go further, and used it as a cereal.

add a touch of Frank's Hot Sauce. Zero calories, zero fat. And it's not "hot", just flavorful.

I like dicing onions, carrots & bell peppers up and after the rice is set and ready to eat, I saute the rice and the diced veggies all together in either some olive oil or cooking spray for a minute or so. Sometimes I have to add a little water while cooking it so the rice doesn't dry out. I also like adding a splash or lemon or lime juice.
  • i have only used it in homemade egg rolls
  • It depends on what your having it with.I add some shredded cheese on mine and sometimes i add cinnamon sugar spice that goes good with pork.i as well am out of ideas it gets boring

I mix salsa with it and it immediately becomes a yummy spanish rice! I like medium heat. It also makes it less dry!
  • Add some beef or chicken bullion cubes to it. About 1 cube or tsp per cup of water.

Sometimes I'll eat it with pico de gallo...stir-fry sounds pretty good with it too but I haven't tried it yet.

Black beans and onions! Delish! I've also always liked to add green beans and pepper to my rice (and maybe some fat free cheese every now and then!)

I like to mix in some bush's Black Bean Fiesta. Very yummy!
  • I love making a brown rice 'salad'-y thing to go with Asian-ish meals.
I mix a tbsp of soy sauce (20 cals) with 1/2 - 1 tsp of wasabi (around 10-15 cals) and toss the rice in this, and add some Japanese pickled ginger (around 10-20 cals).
Makes it so yummy and moist, and perfect with a stirfry, or salmon.
(I can actually just eat it by itself for lunch, mm)

I much prefer the taste of Quinoa...its better for you and like rice can be cooked in an electric rice cooker! It has a rich nutty taste and we cook it up with spices and dried cranberries!

I use a rice cooker and use fat free chicken broth to cook the rice in. I also use Taco Seasoning as a spice, and then have added canadian bacon, boiled chicken breast (cup up) onions, garlic, green, red and yellow peppers, carrots and water chestnuts and make it like fried rice. I usually make enough for lunch the next day and then nuke it.

I saute it with onions and garlic before adding chicken broth to cook it in...this way it has a ton more flavor to it! I also like it in a stir fry

We use stir-fry veggies or salsa and add diced chicken breast or lean turkey and you have a quick meal.

I'll sometimes add a can of rotel to my rice:) Spicy and not as dry! Quinoa is my first choice though!

1/2 cup brown rice + 1/2 cup salsa + 1/2 cup black beans = yummmm

I heat it up and sometimes will sprinkle some TexMex cheese over top.
You can adjust the measurements for your calorie intake. It's pretty dense and I feel full a long time when I eat this.

Normally I stir fry some chicken and veggies and deglase the pan with white wine. Then I normally dump it in my pan sauce and stir it though.

I love brown rice, yum! Sometimes I just add low sodium soy sauce to it and dig in, but I think that's the asian in me that loves just rice and soy sauce. If I'm having it as a side dish, I'll cook it in chicken/beef broth instead of just water and season it well. When I made chicken with mushroom/onion gravy or creamy mushroom sauce I'll put it over brown rice instead of over noodles.

You can add some barley or even whole wheat grains into rice as well for some added flavor and texture. You could also throw some red beans into the rice as well while cooking. I make rice in a rice cooker/pressure cooker which does the trick nicely and quick.

I love seaweed and rice. Most asian markets have pre-seasoned and roasted seaweed sheet sthat come pre packaged individual meal sizes. Make sure it's not the kind you use to make sushi, as that is not roasted or seasoned.

The brown rice & salsa or with stirfry veggies is great. I also love to cook it up with kidney beans and a shake of cumin, coriander, paprika & chilli seasoning.
