Spartan Race/muddy run

Options
Hello everyone,

I'm thinking of taking part in a Spartan race and was wondering if anyone has done them before and would be able to offer me some advise on training.

A few people are advising me to take part in a local muddy run to get the feel for it??

I train between 3-4 weeks, that includes MMA, weights, CV and I compete in rowing. Id say my fitness is pretty good and I am very competitive :-)

Please feel free to PM me,

Thanks for reading

I've only done the Beast so I cannot say for Super or Sprint.
    Obviously, be able to run.

    circuit training with burpees.

If you fail an obstacle you must do 30 burpees.

    practice some rope climbing .
The walls there will be people to assist.
Monkey Bars you can use your legs.

Practice carrying heavy things now and then.

I just registered for the Atlanta Spartan Sprint in March and this information is very helpful.

    Thanks!

I've done a Spartan sprint, and I keep a decent cardio capacity about me but I do focus more in general on weightlifting. It's good to have a variety of all around fitness, because there are things that will tax your endurance and strength. I didn't find the distance a problem, aside from any time you may find yourself crawling through mud uphill under barbed wire!

Doing the Chicago Super on 9/27 and the Carolinas Beast on 10/22!

I am thinking of doing the Dallas Beast on 11/1. It is about 12 weeks out. Anybody planning on doing this one or done it in the past?

I'm doing a Spartan Sprint come September and am excited / nervous.
I've done a Tough Mudder last year and am attending another on this month.
Two Merrell Down and Dirty obstacle course races - this year with bricks

The nicety of most of these is that you don't really have to be in shape .. does is help? Sure.
Spartan worries me the most only because of penalty burpees, they are NOT optional.
Thankfully I do crossfit and are doing a 100 day burpee challenge.. Ha!

But honestly when it comes down to it, have fun, enjoy and expect to be sore the next day.

Those penalty burpees won't end up that bad. In the sprint I attended, so many people had to do them that it would have been easy to just do like 10-15 at a slow clip and then move on.

There are also only so many obstacles where that penalty can come into play. Only areas I really saw many burpees being done were at a javelin toss, 20 foot rope climb, and traverse wall. I was lucky to only have to do burpees at the traverse wall!
