Am I going the right way about weight loss??

I'm 3 and a half weeks into dieting and lost 5lb so far by eating around 1200-1700 calories per day and running 3 miles each night around 3-4 times per week as well as being active at work during the day.
I'm 5'5 and started off 11st 5lb. I'm now 10st 13lb. (152lb)
However, I'm just wanting to know if my routine is correct because the past week I have stayed at 152lb. Weight loss seems to be slowing, but the exercise I do is still challenging so I don't believe I need to do more just yet.
I've noticed body toning and even slightly less fat over the past few weeks but the scales aren't very informative.
Also, I am very (very, very) hard at stopping myself from wanting to eat at night - even if it is the calories I have left for the day, I don't believe it will be helping. Is that right?
Could it be that I lost a lot of water in the first few weeks and now I am more likely to notice fat disappearing if I lose, say 1lb a week?

Good job on the weight loss.
Eat the calories you have left at the end of the day.0 -
The routine sounds sensible, and it has been working. Your TDEE would be around 2350 if you are active at work, and running 3 times a week. If you were to eat 1600 a day you should loose around 3/4lb a week. You could be hanging onto some water weight if you have recently stepped up the exercise. If you are noticing better tone, then it is working.
How are you logging you food and liquid? Are you using a digi scale?0 -
I just use the app to log my food. I don't really log my liquids, I just stick to pints of cordial or coffee/tea p/day. Is it necessary that I log liquid?0
-
I log tea and coffee as I put milk in them, and any other drinks with calories (including alcohol!). I don't bother logging water and other calorie free drinks like herbal tea.
I too lost 5lbs in my first 2 weeks and then slowed down, this is pretty normal. TOM could also be masking some weight loss maybe?
I'm sure plenty of other people will say this as well, but read the Sexypants thread on the Getting Started board for some good solid advice.0 -
Yes, if it contains calories it needs to be logged. The only liquids you don't need to log being water, unsweetened black\herbal tea as a rule. Are you weighing the food?0
-
Its normal for the amount you loose to fluctuate each week - in fact, your weight will fluctuate by 2-3 depending on what time of day you weigh in, whether you trained the night before etc.
If you are doing the training and calorie counting you say you are you will continue to loose weight in a healthy way0 -
Sounds like you are doing great - I would just keep doing what your doing.
Weigh once a week, if no loss after a couple of weeks, adjust your calorie consumption or workout routine.
Also take pictures of yourself I would say......... That scale can be a big fat liar, doesn't always measure your progress! You could be getting smaller & tighter... But be weighing the same, Your also be building muscle & losing fat.0 -
You came to the right place! So many experts here..................I don't know what I would do without them :laugh:0
